I would join a local obedience club. Your dog needs to be around a place with a lot of noises and other people. Keep him on a leash or long line at all times, so that is he does not bolt if something scares him. Use treats and toys to entice him to interact with people. I would take him everywhere he is allowed to go, everyday. Also, some form of exercise will help calm him, long walks, swimming, or playing ball/kong. When friends come over to visit you, give them each a handful of treats. Every time he comes up to sniff or interact with them, have them give him a small treat. Be patient, this will take time. Cute pup, by the way.

    Hello
I am from the UK and rescured Bowser ( enclosed ) In England Pits are a very shady subject and if they show aggresion at all they can be put down straigh away.
Bowser I believe may be a big boy ( he is 18kg now at 5 months ) so I am trying to train him very hard so we have no problems with him in the future as in the UK the bad press really give them a bad name and a lot of people will not come near ( sad really )
I was just windering if you had any tips on training.
Bowser is quite a scared pup as like I said do not think he was trated that well so I think positive rewarding training will be best.
I would like to get the excitment out of him and also him listening a little more due to his scaredness, he will back off if he thinks you are going to tell him off and then you can not get near him.

I am devouting time every day with him , just thought as you look like you have the training down to a fine art, any advise is helpful, as I just want to get the best out of him and for him to have the happiest life
    Thanks for your time

I will post some pictures of my dogs doing Schutzhund, I also have some great pictures of them from the Bernhard Flinks Seminar. I have known him for about 9 years, ever since he started coming to the USA. I took his first seminar here in NM. My dogs are not titled as when I was younger I was too busy to fine tune then trail my dogs. By the time I wanted to compete my male pulled up lame and was retired. After about a 3 year break I have new dogs that I will be trailing this summer. I am devoting more time to Schutzhund than Agility now so I am very excited to be back in the sport.

hey howard I'm reading this book ... Schutzhund theory and training methods by susan barwig and Stewart hilliard... It's got a GSD hopping over an a frame obstacle with a weight in his mouth on the cover. Have you heard of this book? It's very exciting especially the tracking chapters grizz would be an awesome tracker and I'm down to put in the time.
