Spring pole question

Ok i hope this is the right section, and its probably a dumb question but i want to make sure i do it right.

I'm making a spring pole for my pup Bruno, he's 8 months old and absolutely LOVES to play tug. so i went to home depot and got some stuff to make it. i got a garage door spring thats rated at 110lbs which seams to be good if not even stiffer than most people who start at like 80lbs from what i've read. but my issue is its long, about 2 or 3 feet and it seems to stretch too much, i'm afraid its going to snap and i stopped him (which he did not like! lol he did not want to stop!)

the set up is about a 3 foot chain thats wrapped around a big tree branch, a heavy duty quick link and then the garage door spring, another quick link and then the rope that hes tugging. i have it low enough so hes on the ground and just pulling. but it seems to stretch too much and i'm really afraid its going to snap. Maybe the length of the spring is deceiving me, but i'm just really really afraid its going to snap and hurt him so i stopped and want to make sure i got the right spring before i let him play.

This is the spring i got. they only had a small assortment of smaller 6-10" springs and they were all under 20lbs and then one porch swing that was 320lbs but i thought that would be too much. now i'm wondering if i should get that one.

The Hillman Group 25 in. x 120 lbs. Green Extension Spring with Safety Cables (1-Pack)-852152 at The Home Depot

sorry for the long post, just want to make sure everything is clear and i get this right before i let my dog play

cute pup! Love panting pooches Mine is a porch swing.

I have used a bunch of different ones, including a garage spring and bungee cords lol, but this one hasn't given out it been about a year.

Make the spring pole more than fun. When you say out or drop or wait he should release and then play can resume. Good training opportunity

I don't have a spring pole so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but 120lbs doesn't sound like very much.

I don't have one either but I have heard people say not to let the spring or any hardware hang too low or they could hurt their mouth if they accidentally bite it. So just mentioning that.

Yea 120lb doesn't sound like a lot. But from what I read that seemed normal. But once I saw him tug on it I had to stop because I didn't trust it. I'm gonna return the spring and I ordered the super tug from squishy face studios. Comes with a heavy duty bungee and I can put it around the base of the tree, or take the strap off and hang the bungee from the chain I have from a branch. I'll take some pics this weekend of him using it

I have a bungee set up purchased from boogieman. Not sure how long this eye bolt will last, but so far so good.

Just return the spring because that is waaaaay to long! And not enough weight. Get a short one with some good resistance. If its very difficult for you to stretch then you should be good!

Edit: oh I just saw that you are going to return it and get a bungee! Yay, he will love it!

Who needs a spring? Not Bruno lol

http://youtu.be/XPMd0d1SAM8

I took the spring off and returned it. Waiting for the super tug to come in tomorrow. And Bruno was at the door crying watching me take it down so I let him tug on the rope and he loved it. He's really gonna have a blast when it has the bungee cord and he's not just pulling on a tree that's not moving lol
