Post Need some help/Advice adding a second Pitbull...

So here is the quick story.

I live with my parents and we got a puppy named Mia 5 years ago. It's their dog but I take care of her mostly. Feed her, walk her, bathe her, play with her etc... Now my mom wants to add a second Pitbull pup into the mix out of impulse basically. I have tried to convince her otherwise but she does NOT listen to a word I say and just thinks everything will be fine.

Mia is 5 Years old and dog aggressive. Not towards every dog but a good chunk of them. She has attacked a family members dog and a neighbor's dog. She was leashed and the other dogs were running loose. She is great with people, kids, babies and cats.

Anyway.. If I am going to have to make this work, what can I do now to help the situation. The pup will be here when it's 8 Weeks old in about a month.

Male Pup= New dog
Female 5 Year old= current dog

Our current dog seems to learn very quickly but is very stubborn. She knows basic commands like sit, down, paw, stay, come but does them when there are no other distractions. She listens well off leash in a fenced yard unless she has to go to the bathroom.

I am just looking for some general advice to make the situation go as smooth as possible.. She is against crating so that is not an option.. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I would suggest that in the short time you have before the new puppy arrives that you try to convince your mother how important a crate is, especially for a puppy.

A crate is essential for not only training the puppy but for a safe place for the puppy. They need to have a place that they can go to get away from everything and feel comfortable.
Your mother needs to educate herself on owning two dogs (of any breed). There is ALWAYS a chance that the dogs will at some point not get along, or worse, and have to be kept separate from each other. This process is called crate and rotate and is sometimes the only way two dogs that don't get along are going to live in the same house together. Unless your mother is willing to accept that crating a dog is not a punishment, and never should be one, I would strongly advise giving second thoughts of adding another dog to the house.
Best of luck,

Joe
