Good afternoon!

I am just signing up with the group. Just got my pitbull puppy yesterday. Kaenin is 6 weeks old, and I'm looking forward to many years with him. Last night we didn't get much sleep because he was in our bathroom crying. Hoping to get a crate soon so he can stay in that at night. I hate keeping him shut in the bathroom. Any pointers? Thanks in advance!

Good afternoon!

welcome! first off why is he with you and not his littermates still? Most states require dogs to stay with their litters until at least 8 weeks. Dogs go through a fear stage at that age and should be kept with their litters until at least 8 weeks of age. A lot of dogs removed too early can get behavioral issues later in life. Can you bring him back to the breeder for the next two weeks? Bite inhibition is key and they learn from their siblings and mom correcting them when they play especially since they have not recovered all their shots yet at this age so they can't play with other dogs to learn until their last round of shots.

He was a gift to me and the breeder is a friend of the family. I was told that they decided to go ahead and give them to us because the mom was starting to bite them. They were still trying to nurse with teeth and the mom was getting angry apparently. Anyway, I could give him back but it wouldn't do any good because the rest of the pups are elsewhere also. His father passed away shortly after they were conceived (cancer). He has gotten much better about the whining. He lays beside my bed now and does great.

Actually, I have always heard 6 weeks. I have never heard anyone say 8 weeks, but that's good to know. He actually may have been closer to 7 weeks when he was brought to me. I had a dog for 11 years before I got this one. Unfortunately, he also passed away due to cancer. This puppy is from the same bloodline as my previous one. Which is what I wanted because the 3 previous we've had in our family were such great dogs. He's had his first shot and will go back for the next in 4 weeks.
