Training "Whoa"

Well I started training Vendetta the command "Whoa" on tuesday. It is going really well. I was surprised yesterday when she listened and stopped walking as soon as I said " Whoa". My sister and I are working on training our dogs to do hunt trails. Whoa is very important as you need your dog to listen to you when you send them out 50 to 100 ft away to retrieve a dummy.

Just wanted to share.

You start out by having them on a training table. You use a choke chain or a martingale collar. If using the choke chain hook the leash to it on the opposite ring so you are not choking them. You hold your hand under their tail and make them stand all the while saying "whoa". Once they are standing ( had troubles the first few times she wanted to sit) then you give the command and step back from your dog. If they move you tug up on the collar and get their attention say "whoa". I have been doing short times I praise and release after 30 seconds of standing there. Then I repeat it. I have been working her about 15 to 20 minutes a day. Once your dog relaxes try moving in front of and behind them. I dropped the leash today and walked to the other side of the table.
