My foster puppy Oscar is a pit bull that we believe to be less than a year old. He's a last chance at risk puppy who has a tendency to nip/bite when he gets overexcited.
I have been working on ignoring him when he gets overactive and holding still when he tries to bite me, but he's got a strong jaw and sharp teeth so it can be hard. He doesn't break skin when he bites but it's still painful.
When he's calm, Oscar is the sweetest dog in the world. He showers my face in kisses and lays with me on the couch, his head resting in my lap. But he gets these crazy bursts of energy where he can't seem to stop biting.
We believe he spent his first yearish of life in a crate and therefore he didn't have an outlet for his energy as a puppy and is now trying to let it all out at once.
I fell in absolute love with this dog the moment I laid eyes on him and it would kill me to have to put him down especially since I know he can be a big bundle of love when he's calm.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am considering getting him some kind of calming treats that might at least help during the training process but I don't want his training to be dependent on that.
Thank you in advance for any training tips you might have for him!
