Proud of my pups

I just wanted to through out an update on my babies. Nala and Kaos are both doing extremely well. They were 6 mos old on Dec 28 and both weigh around 40lbs. My husband likes dutch commands, since he comes from the world of protection dog training (certified to train and handle police/corrections K9) but I studied, well in high school if that counts, and like the sound of the French commands so we agreed on a mix. They've got the basics down. Kaos is our confident, curious boy. He will go anywhere and check out anything and mastered the basement steps, which are not enclosed nor do they even have any railings, in a day. Nala is much more submissive and not nearly as confident. After weeks of work, she has finally, with the help of her brother, conquered the steps! Now they zoom all over the house and up and down all the steps.

We are working with Nala on increasing her confidence. We take her out more, hang out in parking lots and Pet stores to socialize her and do lots of trips with Ciara and Nala since Nala does feel much better with the big girl around. It's so interesting to see. Ciara is definitely the "head dog" in our pack. (Hubby and I disagree as to who they see as Alpha but they all know us humans are in charge). She controls the pups and they have learned a tremendous amount from her. Thankfully she is well trained! But Ciara has taken more of a liking to submissive little Nala. Those two play and groom and act a fool together. Nala is so much more confident around Ciara. Then there's Kaos. He is testing his boundaries and likes to take pot shots at Ciara when he can. She put him in his place once and I am sure as he continues to test his boundaries and come into his own, she will absolutely do it again. Kaos is learning though and isn't nearly as confident now around Ciara. It's so fun to watch them grow and learn and come into their own!

They are definitely at that stage where they act like teenagers but need to be supervised like toddlers!

That's awesome! You'll have bilingual dogs too!

Having two pups at the same time is def a bit more work trying to stave off the littermate syndrome. But it sounds like you are doing an amazing job getting your little girl to cope.

I'm glad Ciara is being a stern but fair 2nd in command for you.

I saw the pics of the pups, but we need a little more Ciara in our lives.

Happy to hear things are going good and that Nala and Kaos are getting along so well. Teaching them commands in different languages is great. I have a friend whose GSD speaks German, LOL. So fortunate that your husband trains K9's. No lack of dog discipline at your house I'll bet. You both have every reason to be proud. Thanks for the update!

They'll probably be more trilingual if you think about it! French, Dutch, and they will undoubtedly know lots of English too. Ya know, like treat, walk, bath, etc.....

It has been hard and there are times that they whine for each other but it has been easy to distract them. We have worked very hard to stave off litter mate syndrome, feeding them separately, crating them separately for sleep, we each take different combinations of dogs with us on errands. We're not having to put them out to potty separately because Mr. Kaos has entered puberty and keeps trying to mark Nala! I lifted his leg on Ciara once and well I'm sure you can figure out about how well THAT went over!

Thanks for pointing that out about Ciara. She is my best friend by far and constant companion. I love her more than ANYTHING but I know how much everyone loves to see puppies and how they grow and have failed to post enough pics of babes. I will be sure to address that!

It has been fun teaching them in different languages and it's amazing how fast Ciara has picked it up. She's becoming multi-lingual herself! We are such dog lovers that I am sure we allow all of them to do some things many people wouldn't, but it is our choice, not theirs, and they certainly know where they stand and will do as their told as often as can be expected of any animal.

Ah, I did read the French part. Ecko understand German and English. So I just went straight to bilingual.
It sounds like you really have the littermate syndrome prevention program in full swing. I'm sure they will be perfectly balanced when they get a little older.
Kaos better get it together if he doesn't want to get disciplined by everyone all of the time. Hopefully it fades once his hormones regulate a bit. I had a foster that lifted his leg and Ecko was constantly putting his face in the stream. He's not the smartest dog. LOL!
New puppy pics are all well and good, but we like to see our regulars too.
I look forward to seeing your pretty girl soon.
