Angry Sasha destroyed a door!

So, We have been letting Sasha out of the crate for a while, about a month now. She has always bee crate trained and always did good in the crate. Since we moved we have been trusting her and she hasn't broke anything or been a problem with pee or poop..(Maybe 1 accident)....

1 time I left her in the crate in the basement and she went crazy but I left her in, when I got home she had escaped, i think she hit it enough that the metal hinges just opened...I was afraid she might hurt herself and I haven't needed to put her back in ever since.

yesterday I needed to leave for a while so I left her in a big room in the basement, not in the crate. I left toys and a bed for her....See the attached pic so you can see what I got home to. After she got out of that room she didn't do any more damage to the door for the first floor.

This is the same room the crate is, I think she is very scared of it and I'm not sure if I should bother "training" her not to or just not put her in that room again.

When I leave her upstairs she doesn't even bark as I leave, she looks through the window and when I get home she is usually in the same window now sleeping.. She hasn't done any damage upstairs, doesn't even touch the new leather sofa's we got...

I'm afraid if I leave her downstairs she will hurt herself, I'm lucky she didn't with this door...Any ideas?

I don't care about the door, we are remodeling and it was being removed anyway.

wow, ok i know this is totally off subject but this is why DA dogs should be crated not just put in another room (i know your dogs got out of the kennel but its the principle) if they are both loose and in seperate rooms it just to easy for them to tear the door down then either seriously cripple or kill each other

I agree. Can't imagine two dogs trying to get to each other through this door. Granted it's a very cheap door but still.

LMAO sorry that's always just little funny when are so destructive! ok what type of crate do you have her in? Plastic or wire?
Honestly I would go back to crate training and she is still a puppy right? sometimes as they mature they will be fine for a while then they go through this stage where they act like they have never been trained. It is common to have to go back to basics and especially in a new house I would go back to the crate. Make sure she cannot get out and it is a good quality crate I like the plastic ones better also you can try leaving on a tv or radio she could have heard something outside she didn't like.

Hi!

it is a wired crate.... So, should I try doing the crate int the basement again? Even though she has been fine upstairs?

Should I leave her in during the day while we are home, we are always upstairs, not downstairs so she wouldn't like that one bit...

Let me know, thanks

yes, I thought i was very funny. My mum did not.....

its what happened with one of our clients poor thing took the dog in and was trying to find it a home but didn't kennel her just put her in a back room, well the pit went through the door and being a high prey drive dog killed SEVERAL of there cats and or forth before they came home to the pit and one of there dogs (that had NEVER) had a problem with cats, playing tug of war with one of the kitties still alive

it actually makes me cry when i think of what that family went through, i loved ALL there animals, bleh anyways ya kennels there a necessity

sorry didn't mean to put a downer on your post, that door just brought back some aweful memories

Get her a hard-side plastic crate I hate wire crates for young dogs they are dangerous and they can get out of them. Go back to crating her up stairs or down it doesn't matter she has to learn to deal with it. Even though she has been fine upstairs I think she is still too young to fully trust and if she was destructive down stairs it is only a matter of time before she starts upstairs. So get a good plastic hard side kennel and go back to kennel training, make sure she has safe toys to play with and she should be fine.

look on craigslist for a new crate I just picked a band new one that normally cost 120 for 30 dollars, it was not even used!! If you look everyday you can find good deals but yeah in the mean time secure her crate door and DO NOT leave a collar on her she should strangle. Each dog is different but let he get a little older like 18 months before giving free run of the house but that is JMO. I have many dogs I can never trust lose and some are just fine, depends on the dog.
