Canine good citizen test

I wanted to get Max certified as a CGC.... I think he will pass all of the requirements except one with ease. The Dog to dog: When meeting another dog, your dog must show only casual interest. .... Ummmm when Max meets another dog he generally wants to make a happy meal out of it, no matter how big OR small it is. I understand that it`s because he has a high "prey drive"... Is there any way to discourage this behaviour? Any advice greatly appreciated.

That is a big one on the CGC test. I have been a tester for the CGC for a few years and that is one that many dogs fail. Take him to as many places as you can and have him sit when he sees other dogs and ignore them, give him a pop on the collar if he looks or tries to get too excited. You can even give him a command like leave it. The more places you can take him the better, like to petsmart on the weekends and sit in the entry way off to the side and make him hold a sit stay when ppl walk in with dogs. The work on approaching ppl with dogs and tell him to sit and stay before you say hello to them. When I teach CGC classes this what I tell my students to do. Walk up and tell the dog to sit stay then address the other person. A sit stay means me stays until you release him even if another dog is sitting right there.
