I need help!

Tyson has never been aggressive towards ANYTHING or anyone. he growled at me yesterday when i said bad dog. i didn't raise my voice or yell. i picked up something he was chewing on and said bad dog. then today my boyfriend tried to pet his face. and he started growling at him. i don't know whats wrong. he has never EVER done this. if we don't figure out something ASAP and fix it we are finding him a new home or worse if my boyfriend has it his way. we can not risk any aggression with our baby in the house. Does anyone know what could cause this? i also notice he has been acting really weird lately. he will just start running untill he runs into something and then bounce off and run into something else. he will do it for hours nothing you can say will stop him. and he has started barking at the ceiling for no apperant reason. i need to figure out whats wrong. Please help

how old is he? you notice any change in his eyes? reason I ask is cause what your desribing would think maybe vision problem and if he is seeing shadows or things differently it may be frightning to him causing him to growl. running into thisng isnt normal like you describe , he also may have an ear infection it can cause him to be off balance as it effects is equalibrium { sp??} and may be painful and causinh him to act out of sorts. Do you notice him titlting his head at all? shaking it? scratching? Id be looking into something medical at this stage its odd he would just start this. Dont rush into rehomming him untilyou have searched for a logical reason but keep your child safe in the meantime , you may have to crate him at times or seclude him in a room away from baby for a bit until this is cleared up

he is just about to turn 2. i don't think its his eyes. he can follow a laser pointer at full speed for a half mile. and i also think it may be medical. because it happened so suddenly. we are keeping him outside untill we figure out what we are going to do. i really don't want to rehome him. he is my child and best friend. i know i wouldn't get rid of my daughter because she acted up. but my boyfriend def. doesn't feel that way.

i think its a combination of what angel said and what zohawn said. im gonna have to say that it sounds like theres more of something wrong with his eyes than his ear, if it was just his ear he would probably just clip something rather than run directly into it.

if he is showing aggression though I would have him checked out now rather then later if its something medical it would need to be addressed now , get his eyes and ears checked and see what else the vet recommends. if he doesnt find anything you may want to look into having his temperment tested { with someone who has experience with this breed} has he ever done anything like this before ? never growled or anything?
Im still leaning towards something medical. When your boyfriend pet his face did the dog have anything at the time? toy? bone? treat? anything he could be possessive of? any changes lately have you been exercising him harder , has he fallen off a bed or jumped and maybe fell funny? notice him walking funny ? { they do tend to hide pain very well so if thats it , it can be hard to pinpoint exactly whats bothering them}

You cannot rehome a dog who is having aggression issues like that you should put them down.

OK my suggestion is to find a trainer in your area and have him evaluated. A lot of behavior problems can happen at maturity and the dog could be unsound. Another reason you need a trainer is your dog just maybe maturing and is not unsound just trying to be boss. Growling at you is not a sign the dog is bad just that you might need help with training or the dog really is unsound and needs to be PTS. Without seeing the dog in person it is impossible to guess over the internet and why you need to find a goos trainer to do an eval. If you need help finding a good trainer send me you city, state, and zip code.

Most defiantly never rehome a dog that could be aggressive. Have a professional evaluate the dogs and go from there.

Good advice! I was going to say something along the lines, but PK said it just right.

Now, what kind of growl was it? Was it an actual aggressive growl or could it be the type of growl where your dog was "talking back" to you? Maybe it was your dog saying "how dare you take my chew toy" or "don't pet me right now". That would have what I thought first, was to figure what kind of growl and what my dog's body language, tone was telling me.

But lots of good advice! If your dog is physically fine and nothing is causing discomfort to make them irritable, then definitely seek a professional dog trainer with experience in this area and the breed and go from there. Good luck!

Keira makes lots of noises that could be construed as growling, if heard by other people. I know it's just her talking to me.
But I would follow the advice of the others.... they have been in this far longer!
