Puppy jumps when greeting people

I'm sorry if this is a repeat. I went through the threads to see if there was one about jumping & couldn't find it. Lost my glasses too.

My 5 month old AmBully Mason gets excited when greeting people & jumps up. I know this is usually the norm for young pups & it needs to be corrected immediately. Some days he does well, and others he is just gets too excited & forgets his manners. He knows SIT, DOWN, WAIT, & working on STAY, but like I said, the excitement takes over. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I feel silly now. I didn't realize I could search for posts by key words. I found some on this subject from back in Feb 2012. One thing I need to work on is when I have Mason at my kids outdoor sports games, people want to pet him. Mason will jump up & I will say "off" while pulling him down with the leash & push his butt down & say SIT. But sometimes people will say "no that's ok, my dog jumps on me all the time". I tell them I'm working on him not to jump. Some people comply, some don't. That's when I have to walk away

I hate when people don't care lol. I am sure they mean no harm but Jeesh!!

I always put Mel in a sit when I ask him if he wants to say hi. That way he is less Likely to jump up but that's why you are doing already lol.

The SIT command is something I need to work with him with distractions around!!! The little bugger will do it fine with me at home, but when we're out, he makes me look like a fool when I tell people he knows SIT lol. I think tonight I will be bringing a bag of "training" treats to my son's football game to work with him with distractions.

Anticipate the anxious jump, throw your knee out for him to jump into, don't knee thrust him just bounce him off you before he gets the momentum at the sane time key out a boastful AHT (At) sound. Then say down or sit one word.. No good dog, just sit it down.

my pup also would get super hyped when any one would come over so what I did was I tied his butt up in the living room so he couldn't reach the guest he'd jump around and I'd have them ignore him until he sat down on his own and hushed then the guest would go over and reward him by giving him a pet eventually he settled down quicker and quicker until I no longer needed the leash
out in public I'd have him sit if he could hold sitting there than he got petted if not he was straight outta luck
remember him being petted is the reward you have to get him to understand that if he does what you want first than something good will happen
cause a dog will do whatever is in his best interest
