Why does ear crop look like this?

I asked for the Short Crop(Medium) in between Show Crop and Battle Crop, why did my vet cut them like this? He is 13 weeks old here. Is it because he is still young that's why they look so long?? Would I be able to get them shortned if they aren't what I asked for?

Looks closer to a show crop, but it's typical to leave a little extra length for the dog to grow into.

Yes, they can be shortened if you absolutely feel that's necessary, but it's hard on the dog, so not really worth it, IMO.

Your boy just hasn't grown into them yet. Give them time.

You want them like this!!!! As he grows he will look awesome! Lots of people make the mistake of cropping down to what looks good on the PUPPY when they should be cropping them with the adult head size in mind.
Vet did a great job. By the time he's grown they will be a medium crop

I'm not asking this in order to push an anti-ear cropping agenda (I have no strong opinion for or against), but rather out of curiosity as someone with little knowledge of the subject:
1)Why would someone crop their dog's ears?
2) Why did you decide to have your dog's ears cropped?
Again, question is from ignorance and curiosity, not intended as criticism.

My first pitbull I had his ears cropper because I love the look... But I soon found out my dog hated the rain because his inside of his ears would get wet.. He hated wind because his ears where like little scoops, if he rolled on his back outside he would get so much dirt and stuff in his ears it was impossible to keep clean and he was an inside dog lol. As much as I loved the cropped look I will never do it again to any of my dogs as I know my first dog hates it.
