Post Article from an angry mother: If You Have a Baby Give Away Your Pit Bull

This article showed up in my Google Alerts e-mail and once I saw the title I had to read it.
This woman is an idiot. Plain and simple. What this woman doesn’t know is how the whole incident happened. Most people never do know the whole story BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T THERE.
Angry Mom says:
Quote:
“I don't think people with small kids should have pit bulls -- period. There are just too many stories that you hear about pit bulls killing kids. I've never heard of a poodle killing a child, but it just seems like pit bull attacks are a common occurrence (same with German shepherds and Rottweilers -- they're just as dangerous, and should be nowhere near children).”
This woman should check out this story about a poodle attack.
This child was bitten by a cocker spaniel it was playing with.
This child required 100 stitches after being bitten by a Labrador Retriever.
This toddler was bitten by a West Highland Terrier.

No wonder people say pits are always in the news. If you search any breed of dog pit bull articles are all that appear; however, they are the same articles repeatedly.
One thing you notice about all those articles is the dog breed isn't mentioned in most of the headlines, almost as if to keep it "hush-hush."

The author also states:
Quote:
"I know that pit bull owners would probably disagree with me, but obviously the parents of the 2-year-old California boy who was killed didn't think their dog was violent either ... until the worst happened. Do YOU think people with kids should have pit bulls or other violent dog?"
The dog may not have been violent and aggressive all the time. Perhaps the 2 year old and the dog were unsupervised, which led to the tragic incident. Perhaps the dog was not neutered. Side note: a spayed/neutered APBT has never been documented in a fatality when kept exclusively as a household pet. I encourage everyone to spay/neuter their pets please! In addition, YES I think responsible people with kids should have pit bulls, if that is their dog of choice and their pit bull is child friendly. Notice I said RESPONSIBLE. NO, I don't think people with children should have VIOLENT dogs, as that would be IRRESPONSIBLE; however, not every pit bull is violent, lady. 9 times out of 10 a dog bite occurs because of negligent parents leaving their 2-year-old (who can be very annoying to a dog sometimes) UNSUPERVISED leading to misfortune. I'm thinking people with her high level of ignorance shouldn't have kids either. Also, many of the alleged pit bull attacks were not actually pit bulls.

Breed identification is rather problematic because there are over twenty dog breeds erroneously identified as being pit bulls.Over twenty-five different breeds are responsible for fatal dog attacks. The overlooked breeds ranging from Pomeranians and Chihuahuas to Golden Retrievers and Collie breeds do not appear on any BSL laws anywhere. These are just as likely to be dangerous when in the hands of careless owners.

blah blah blah...if you noticed in the quote it says storys. So what happened to good ol' facts? Clearly not doing her homework it has been proven that a number of dogs accused of being a pit bull is not a pit bull.

this lady doesnt know what she is talkin about. I know more chiwawas(sp?) that attack then pitbulls.

Just another lady scared for her lap dog being picked on by bigger dogs

What bothers me more than most of these articles is the inability of any of the detractors to accept logic, facts, statistics or really any kind of stance that will prove them to be in the wrong. People who vocally dislike pitbulls or who promote BSL seem for the most part to be completely incapable of independant They often remind of the spoiled little rich kid on the playground who when confronted by his classmates yells out "My daddy will sue"

If I thought for a minute my grandkids were in danger from their 7 pits I would be screaming my head off and I would probably be fighting with my son and his wife but I know everyone of the dogs and I feel that they are safe. The only thing I have seen the dogs do to the 9 month old is either lick her feet when she sticks them in the crate. She sticks them up and they will lick and she will just laugh. That is usually with Bumblebee (my fav). She goes by Snoops cage and he likes to lick any part of her body that he can reach with that tongue of his. Usually its the back of her head. Then she has a "dog" lick on the back of her head. Yeah I think we'll keep them around the kids. I feel better knowing that when my 5 year old granddaughter goes outside to play that she has something that will protect her. People think twice about coming in your yard to grab your child. The only dog I worry about that they have is the chiwawa (sp). But my daughter-in-law is a very and I mean very responsible dog owner. How do I know that? I had to take her to the vet not too long ago with one of her dogs to have it put down. It was showing aggression towards people and she was not going to take a chance of the kids being hurt or anyone else for that matter. She was heartbroken. This was one of her pups from her last litter and it had been adopted out. Things happened, the dog came back, it just wasn't the same dog that left. But like I said she is a VERY RESPONSIBLE owner. She loved that dog but she also knew it wasn't a life for her being tied up away from everyone and everything for something that wasn't her fault.

Look at her banner for her website and you will see all the dogs that are in the home with my granddaughters (except for one of the pits which is one of them that had to be put down). Do they look mean to you? I wish people wouldn't condemn a breed because of stupidity. If they want to do that because of them having bad experiences with the breed then it is easier to try and understand why they have those feelings but when it is just because of stories that they have heard its harder to try and understand. When I was a child I was bit by a German Shepard that snuck up behind me. I had known this dog for years. It belonged to a friend. I don't condemn them.

I don't know Holly personally but I will say that from what I do know of her here on the forum she is definitely a responsible owner. I love all of her positive pit bull pictures of the dogs and the girls.

When you look at her banner you can see all the dogs and if you notice there is a little white dog in the picture. That is Frances and she was raised with Slim. They do everything together. And the dog with the green collar on is Bumblebee (my fav). Of all the dogs in that picture the one that worries me the most? Frances. Yes, Frances. People don't stop to think about the little dogs. Think about this. You have small children in the home, you have one of these ankle biters, you let the dog have the run of the house with the kids, the kids are playing with the dog and if you have a young child in the home, like a toddler, they are probably pulling on the dogs ears, slapping at the dog and the next thing you know the dog has bit the toddler and most of the time it is in the face because the child is usually sitting on the floor.

I have watched that show "It's Me or The Dog" and Victoria says on the show time after time that more people are bitten by small dogs because when they show aggression to people, the majority of the owners will laugh and think its so cute because the dog is "protecting" them. WRONG!!!!!! That is just stupidity. Let a large breed dog do that and it is either put down w/o any questions as to why the dog did it or the owner puts it in the backyard on a chain and left there.

Francis has the same temperament of my pitbulls. What causes these issues in small dogs is owners letting there dogs do whatever they want becasue they are small. My Chihuahua is crate trained and raised witht eh same manners I would expect from my pitbulls. She IS NOT one of those yippy snappy dogs. She is completely human friendly.

The dogs you have to worry about are the ones that have not been properly raised and socialized, and it the owners that sit there and leave their children unattended with ANIMALS.

Dog attacks are an OWNER problem not a breed problem.

That is one thing I can say about Francis is she is definitely not a yippy dog. I'm not sure if I have ever heard her bark. Not so for her mother, father and brother. They go nuts when someone knocks on the door. They also will try and jump on you when you sit down.

Francis does have one thing that will get her in trouble----she thinks she's a pitbull. She doesn't realize how small she is and that she could be hurt if she gets sat on by Slim.
