My mom and step dad's new dog...

So last weekend my stepfather and youngest brother (he's 13) found a dog in the woods while camping/hiking. They just sprang it on my mom, didn't call to ask her opinion, just showed up with it. Well, it went to the vet wednesday (they got home tuesday) and the dog needed to be muzzled to be examined, and then to be given shots (I have no idea why they removed it after the exam).

So a situation came up with hubby's family, and we needed to head up to NJ for the day, and we took the dogs to spend the day at grandma's house. When we got there, we took the new dog outside, and tried to intro him to our dogs slowly, he is ok with Thrall and Raisin, but not Lady. He tried to bite me twice in the yard, and Lady nearly went through the fence trying to get to me to protect me. So at their house, it's crate and rotate, no big deal for 1 day.

Well i went up to take Raisin to see my mom, she was upstairs in her room, and when i went in Raisin runs to her and she grabs her and hugs her, and I see she's crying. Apparently the dog has gone after her a couple times, and she's afraid to go downstairs. My stepfather is playing the "but the kids love him" card on her. She told me that she has nightmares about the dog.

I put 2 and 2 together, and I think the dog is particularly aggressive towards women, as the vet was a woman also. But we figured that when we got back tonight we would work with the dog and try to give it a good evaluation. Before we left for the day I fed the dogs, and the new dog went after me for no reason, and Thrall gave him a passing warning shot, EBs are worse than pits with giving no warning. So Thrall has to stay in the laundry room with Lady, and Raisin was safe upstairs with her grandma.

Fast forward to this evening. Hubby and I decide to take Lady and Jak (new dog) for a walk to see how they behave, and try to get a feel if it's protecting the home or what. So hubby can't even click the leash to the dog, he's doing his damndest to bite. We finally get him hooked up and do the walk, he's still HA the whole time. We get home, and none of us, even my brother, the older of my younger bros (19) can get the leash off. We finally get it off, and I'm telling Jak hes a good boy, and scratching his ear, and without warning he just goes for my hand.

So my brother agrees he's got to go. I'm gonna talk to my mom, and I'll tell my little bro I will get him a puppy if we can get this dog to a rescue. The aggression is fear aggression, and can probably be worked out with a lot of time and patience, but I feel like they are not equipped for it, and with their busy house, a child is going to get bitten. I think my stepfather is gonna be a real jerk about this though, but the dog is a menace. I believe the dog is a rotti/ akita mix. My stepfather had said shepherd, but the dog has a curled tail, and spotted tongue, one ear flops like a rotti, and the other roses like a pit. He is mostly black with tan highlights. I pride myself on being willing to work with problem dogs, but this dog just gives no warning sometimes. I'm kind of afraid to go do laundry now with him there lol. Sorry for the rant.

if there are that many signs of HA and so many attempts, it would probably be best to put the dog down. Unfortunately, from what your describing, to me it seems he is just HA, not just demonstrating fear aggression. I'm really sorry for your situation and it really does seem like they were just trying to help the dog and give it a good home.
