Dog attacks and stops would-be robber in Maine

Dog attacks and stops would-be robber in Maine - Boston News, Weather, Sports | FOX 25 | MyFoxBoston

Video in link

SACO, Maine (MyFoxBoston.com) -- It was just a typical Monday morning last week at Holly's Gas Station. Justin Ireland was at work with his dog, Thor, when a suspicious man walked in.

"Guy walked up to the door, asked if he could use my phone," Ireland told WGME. "I never let anyone in the building. So I said no, I don't have a phone you can use."

When the man pulled out a gun and demanded money, it became clear he wasn't interested in the phone.

"As soon as he pushed me, that's when Thor jumped up at him," Ireland said in his interview with WGME. "I started yelling, that's when he went right after him."

In a lighting-fast reaction that proves Thor was named appropriately, the Pit-Bull-Boxer mix lunged at the intruder, initially biting him on his hand, then going for his face, biting him on each side.

The would-be robber's reaction was what you might expect.

"As soon as the dog went after him, they guy took off quicker than anything," Ireland told the station.

He added that Thor has never done anything like that before, though he always wondered what he'd do in this type of situation.

"The boss likes him just because he looks like good security," Ireland said to WGME. " And now I know he actually is."

Police are still looking for the suspect. He is described as a white man, roughly 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue GAP sweatshirt and fled the gas station and into a nearby waiting truck, described as a newer model light blue Chevrolet Silverado with an extended cab.

Wow, right there in your home state! Good for Thor. Too bad the SOB didn't fall into a snow drift and disappear till spring thaw.

Which some say up to Bangor is really just Northern Massachusetts so I get the confusion! lol We make fun of Maine, like all the stupid jokes Maine is the punchline. You know like how do you know Maine invented the tooth brush, because anywhere else it would have been called a teethbrush. lol stupid jokes like that. I love Maine, they just get a bad rap lol

LMAO. Thanks for the explanation. I really appreciate that you can retain your sense of humor despite your aching muscles from excessive snow shoveling.
