GOING RAW [no more kibble]

so started looking into this whole feed raw/no kibble diet and wanted to get some input.I will post pics/info on making the big switch.I found a butcher shop down the street that already have a few people doing it getting the meats at a good price. My question is what else besides vitamin c once daily will be needed to make his diet whole?

Ohhh lord... you should post up what you know about this diet... I feed raw... I've never factored in Vitamin C to be honest with you. There's a crap ton more than just meat in a raw diet. And there is a specific way you need to prep the food. How old is your dog?

I'm already raw but I add no supplements. Of course not everyone is the same in feeding raw so you do what your comfortable with and research. I mimic as much of the wild as I can ... by feeding raw bone marrow, 3 x a week adding organs which are vital, 2 x a week fish like mackerel, whiting, sardines ... tripe 3 or 4 times ... and steamed vegies small portions mixed into the meats he loves ... thats just me ...
But I know others do it different and do add supplements and their dogs are fine as well ...

Crash, I'm not saying this to come off offensive at all!

I'm really not a fan of kibble and raw diets. That can easily cause a lot of digestive problems. They are completely different in preparation which causes your dogs tummy to always be "confused"... you can also give your dogs an over load on nutrients. That's my personal experience... if you go raw why feed kibble? Raw is supposed to be a quality controlled entire diet, not a supplement.

Scout, I hope you don't mind, but I have a lot of people ask me this, so I'm gonna start using my PM you you as a template lmfao...

https://www.gopitbull.com/health-nutr...ive-cheap.html

here's a good link... the OPs quote is from the Pit Bull Bible. I have used it as a guideline really for my diet. I cant seem to find where i posted my receipe, but from this I'll give you a little comparrision. It was a little trial and error on my part to find out what reeeeally worked for my dogs. My dogs weigh between 45-55 pounds. so I give them :

a chicken quarter, and a drum stick (make sure you watch your dog with all bones that way he doesn't swallow them whole which will cause a blockage)... when I'm feeling frisky i'll debone the meat and give them a table spoon of Bone Meal. Raw beef bones such as ribs are awesome treats... they last a whole heck of a lot longer than those splintery craps they sell at the pet store that have been smoked and much more healthy, just make sure they get taken away when they get small enough to swallow

I give about a heaping serving spoon of rice (it helps keep the poo together)

about 3/4 cup of purade veggies (i like carrots and green beans, but anything will do... you need to purade the veggies so your dog can use it's nutrients)

a table spoon of lard (ideally you should use real raw fat from an animal, but lard serves it's purpose and is cheap as all get out)

half of a multivitamin

1 fish oil capsule

1 flax seed oil capsule

1 scoup of plain yougurt (this helps with promoting the good digestive bacteria in the tummy)

i give an egg 1 or 2 times a week

a slice of cheese once a week

and I don't remember why, but i read some where that a slice of beat is good in their dog food about once a month. Don't do it too often because the beats color tends to show in your dogs coat.

Every other day i add a splash of Apple Cidar Vinegar in their food and it helps deter the pests from them

that's about it... prepare to have your kitchen counter look like a mini health food store!

EDIT: I will find the percentages in a moment of everything that you need so you can formulate your dogs needs.

Gah I can't find it anymore... I know the whole meal/day should be 2% of their body weight, and 4% of that is protien.... I'll have to hunt more later.

Two reasons, I disagree with feeding vegetables unless pureed. Boiled and steamed deplete nutrients from them and when whole/uncooked most vegetables are not digested. Kibble replaces what you dont give in this situation with raw. Which is why I quoted and made that one sentence bold.

Second reason being since I wish to only feed meats and soft fruits when feeding raw diets is more cost effective to stick with a rotation of a premium kibble. It cuts the cost in half.

Also, when in rotation it does not confuse anything, it keeps digestive tract in a balance and not on one track. I know of many people that do it, holistic vets that recommend it, as well as premium food companies that recommend it. When kibble and raw are mixed in one serving then that can be a complication but feeding properly prepared raw promotes better digestion in general as well as a better immune system do to the enzymes it helps replace.

Lots of people as well as my personal experience also say it makes transitioning easier. My dog has yet to have diarrhea since the first week I had him. The only time he had gas was when I gave him a raw egg and never had troubles with bowel movements and blockage.

Right, no lose stool and less of it. Im just using loose stool as it is a indicator and first warning of most digestive issues.

I will also add that saying our holistic vet recommends it is a bit to far. I would rather say he OK's it as it is not harmful.

I also heard that beets are bad, might be ok once a month as suggested but they are very high in sugar but do have some nutritious value.

They are used in commercial foods as filler cause commercial food companies can obtain beet pulp very cheap as it is a left over product from producing table sugar.

First off you need the vegetation for roughage unless you are going to feed tripe but the way tripe has gone up in price due to so many getting into raw.
You can basically make your own tripe by vegetation and a few other things mixed in.
Yogurt you need to mix in Apple cider vinegar due to yogurt structure cannot be opened by the body so the ACV opens it for the system. It will also make sure the body stays alkaline.
I feed my dogs all RAW diet but I mix in the follow things

1. Meats (domestic / gamey / organs) = Meat should be frozen for at least 72 hours before defrosting and feeding.
2. Vegetation / Fruits = should be blanched in boiling water. I blanch the veggies before I grind them up.
3. Yogurt / apple cider vinegar = it is correct that it helps with digestion keeping the enzymes in the system.
4. Supplements = Just like you the dog needs supplements if you are feeding kibble or raw.

5. Some will use oats or barley (neither are bad for a dog especially if the dog cannot keep weight on)

Also you need to feed bone (I myself purchase lots of beef bone RAW) They need the calcium and the marrow.

Hope this helps
