Smile raw all the way or mixed half and half????

ok so i'm new to this whole form thing but here it goes ....Ok so a couple of weeks ago i brought home a female pit bull puppy .. i just had to do it even tho me and my boyfriend already had a amazing 7 month old pit boy named zues .. well needless to say i was completely unaware that i had been feeding him the worst thing possible { purina puppy chow } sooo i went out and bought blue buffalo what i had heard many good things about and really thought it would go great.. it didnt.. it just wasnt working...so now i have been doing my research on this raw food diet and since i have alot of extra time on my hands i want to start it now.. me and my boyfriend treat our dogs like children they go everywhere with us i only want the best for my babies so after reading and reading i'm trying to decide to go all raw or mix half kibble { high quality} of course and raw meats and veggies ???? pros and cons would be so helpful as i just cant seem to decide...
thanks in advance
lacy

I opt to go all raw with the dogs I do raw. I think its less confusing on there digestive system , although I know a couple who mix raw and kibble and some do raw at 1 meal and kibble at the other meal { if i did bothI would atleast switch feedings raw in morning kibble at night kinda thing} but thats my opinion. I dont give vegis either Idont see the point in it they are carnivores not vegans lol,{ i know some swear by veggies , my prefrence is no though} they do get the occassional peice of fruit for treats they like apples and berries, If they ate the carrot they could have it but they always spit it back out at me, I think as treats though you could offer vegis if they would eat it.

Read The Prey Model RAW. It is a great guide on how to start feeding RAW but until you have researched it and understand it then I don't think you should be feeding it. If not done correctly then it can do more harm than good. Chicken backs and quarters are a great start and if you follow the Prey Model it will tell you what protein sources to add when and when it is time to incorporate organ meat and muscle meat. The only thing it leaves out is mixing in pureed veggies, which I feed about 5-15% of veggies. You will find varying opinions on feeding veggies. Some say they don't need them, but they actually do need them. Roughage helps with digestion and they are extremely nutritional, but only if pureed.

Read the Prey Model RAW, search our health guru Deb (geisthxe)'s posts, and then if you still have questions post them up.

RAW is best for a dog. It is everything he or she needs and nothing they don't; in addition, RAW is 97% digestible as opposed to kibble, which is only 47-77% digestible. The proof is in the poop. Literally

the blue buffalo if they are doing well on it already is a good food to feed, I would just stick with that for now as long as they are good on it. you can add a fish oil pillor something to it if you like or a spoon of pro biotics once in awhile. I wouldnt switch food too much if you dont have too.

Thats the thing my male didnt do well on it at all... it went terrible .. he got dry heaves and the runs.. and I read it had been recalled 5 times in 7 years the most recent being 2010... maybe it was misinformation but I just want to be safe then sorry.. and I am very interested in switching to raw I just want to make sure I do it the right way like I said my dogs are my world ..well other then my little girl lol ... me and my boyfriend have been reading the prey model raw diet and that looks pretty simple.. but like I said i want to make sure I do all the research I can. any other good websites for the raw? and have you heard anything about kirkland i'm considering switching them to that as they are on purinia pro plan as that was what my male was doing best on ... we are at the end of the bag so any comments on what I should go with ??????

what about trying to grain free blue buffalo, Blue Buffalo Wilderness. Maybe try something other than Chicken if that's what you had last time. The BB Wilderness is the Grain free and mimics RAW. (it was the regular BB that was recalled, not the wilderness or the basic from my understanding) Try a bag of that, mix it with the end of the other bag slowly for a week or 2 until they switch. Like pitbullmama said, read up on Raw for a few weeks while you have them on grain free kibbles and go from there. Its not something you should just read about for a few days and experiment with, you should have a full understanding before you go that route, especially for puppies.

yes i agree on that thats how i ended up here doing MORE research..I have been reading and asking around and i will not put my dogs on raw until i got it done but even the pros started somewhere so i'm pretty sure it isnt rocket science and ill firgure it out thanks tho and i might look into that blue wilderness grain free .. but again i will do my research on that too because these dogs are like my kids..

Kirklands is a good food as well you can try that.I switched my dogs onto that after I was told about it on here we fed orijen before that { probably the best food you can feed kibble wise but it is very pricey} Obviously there was a bit of a change going from the best to the kirkland food and we chose to go back to orijen and then recently switched most of mine over to raw { we fed 1 dog raw since he was 4 months and liked the results so trying it now with some others.}but if they arent doing well on the blue buffalo then yes the kirkland is a good one to try too. { but how long did you give them to adjust to the new food? and how did you switch? } make sure you mix the old and new food and gradually up the new food ratio vs the old food over a few days until it is all the new food. Makes it a bit gentler of a transition for the dog.

Mixing both confuses the body. Lots of people feed both but I don't see the point.
