i tried it for a few days... first you get them to associate the clicking sound with looking at you.. then you give them treats when they do look at you. then you go thru the motion you want, and when they do it, you click and you treat. it's pretty simple and Ive found that it works GREAT with some dogs, but the ones who are a little more hardheaded learn it a little bit slower. I tried using it just to get chino to learn his name better... i'd try it out and see if you like it. The only thing Ive heard is that once theyre on the ball with that thing that its hard to get them off of it.. GOODLUCK and good question

Hi wheezie,

I used clickers until around 2002 when I first heard of SATS Bridge and Target. I feel it more supports cognizance in animals, and, while I am as positive and motivational as possible, I am uncomfortable in the climate of pure positives. I invite you to take a look at this method.

I have tried to use the clicker thingy but I alway click at the wrong time. Every since I was little I have clicked my tongue when I wanted a dog attention. So in fact I guess I do do clicker training I just don't use a device to do it. I have trained my horses and goats and rabbits to come to me when I click my tongue too. It works well.

I will tell you form a working point of view.....

Clicker dogs tend to be union workers always offering behaviors to get a cookie. Because in true clicker training you click for everything and you start to get a dog that will do several trick to see which one will get the click. I do not use the clicker to the extreme they way you are suppose to. I DO like the clicker for dogs I train for the movies. It's a great marker to tell the dog they did well and a fast way to teach tricks.
I do not use it on my working dogs. I am sure it can have it's applications in the working field but I prefer other method for working dogs. BUT I love it for tricks. IMHO
