We started using a prong collar for walking our guy (pit mix,1.5 years old) a few months ago, as per the trainer we took him to. We still use it. He doesn't seem to understand the concept of walking nicely, regardless of what we've done. It doesn't seem to bug him, and he doesn't pull when it's...

Ok gang, So I took my dog to a trainer yesterday, and she placed the prong collar so the prongs are in the back of the neck, and not under the neck below her mouth (as a previous trainer instructed). I asked her a few times if that's the right way and she said yes, and she was shocked the other...

My puppy just turned 4 months today, and I'm struggling to leash train him. He's very stubborn and hard headed. I've training dogs to walk on the leash successfully without using leash corrections, and I tried to train Duke this way, but I've spent hours trying to gain his focus on me while...

I started classes yesterday for dog training and attempted to use a slip collar, after about 10 minutes his neck was very raw. I've decided to switch to a prong collar but I'm wondering, has anyone had prong collars hurt the dogs neck from sensitivity? I felt really bad about the slip collar and...

I own a highly prey driven APBT, so trying to bring him out on walks with me has always been a nightmare. I have only been taking him out after dusk, when all the squirrels have went home for the night and nobody is really around to distract him. Even that is hard because he still tries to hunt...

What exactly does a prong collar do ? I was told it hurts the dog to make them walk right is that true ? I was also told it helps a dog walk correctly so they won't pull . My 5.5 month old Mila , is starting to pull when I walk her she's getting pretty strong . I was a harness to walk her . My...

    - I found a great website that has all the info and studies I have done research on. It talks about the dangers of slip chains but also Head Halties and easy walker harnesses fall into this category too. Because the Halties and easy walkers twist the body they can cause long term damage to the...

Hey guys, I was looking to start biking with my dog to get him more conditioned, the only problem is he's a big boy with a high prey drive that'll pull on the leash if he sees any animal while we're out walking. While walking, a nicely fitted prong collar takes care of all of his pulls, but I...

So I've been doing some reading up on prong collars, but I'm still not clear on how the correction works? Should this be a quick snap on the lead by the handler, or does the correction happen as the dog pulls and the collar tightens? Or both?

Hey guys, Well, it seems as if Buddy's skin is really sensitive to the prong collar that I got him at PetSmart. I've had it for a while now, and try not to use to very often, but he's just been pulling horribly bad when we go to new places. Oh, and YES.. I do fit his prong properly. LOL...

Riley is almost past 18" so I was going to go with either 19" or a 20" prong. what do you guys think? 20" I can always fit it and she can grow into it as she gets older and I don't have to run out every month to replace it. good idea to get a 20" or just get a 19"?
