It saddens me when I see even die-hard dog lovers detest pit bull terriers. They act like pit bulls are something different, like that they aren't just as good of a dog as any other dog is. There are mean pit bull terriers out there, sure, but that happens when the people that raised them are mean to them first.

Well trained and proper labeling usually helps. Bull breed is the blanket term. American Pit Bull Terrier is a "pit bull". Under the blanket term of bull breed is the American Staffordshire Terrier or AmStaff, American Bully, APBT, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Boston Terrier, Bull Terrier, etc. Mislabeling is the cause of BSL in the US. People calling random bull breed mixes "pit bull".

So yeah, well trained, obedient, friendly, labeled correctly. Offer the education of the proper labels and letting folks know that human aggression is not common in well bred dogs as it was not a desired trait when breaking up a fight in the sport.

Not much you can do, except go about being normal and well-behaved in public. Most people don't like to be lectured to or have their minds changed by any force or pushiness. Don't worry about it, other than have a well-behaved dog in public so what they see IS just another dog in public.
