question about symptoms and possible remedies for my 4 pitties, and 1 mutt they are sharing..the same symptoms.. some slightly worse than others, none life or death.. so it seems..the newest dog had none of these symptoms til exposed to the rest, after a few weeks started showing the same sypmtoms....hair loss, around anus, and hind legs as well as stomach, hair turns black around anus and falls out, this is congruent with a bump or hotspot on the underside of the tail (if you grabbed the tail and lifted up to look) 2-4 inches above rectum has the same symptom..hair turning black and falling out, 4 pittbulls, 1 mutt, all the same symptoms.......Hair loss and thinning all over stomach and legs, thickest part of the coat on all dogs is the top following the spine, hair is somewhat brittle and flakey but not thinning (JUST INFO, i THOUGHT- WHY THINNING EVERYWHERE BUT HERE?) Dark spots on armpits, and anus, scaley skin where the darkspots are present, and in some dogs dandruff..periodically, I must mention the scaley skin is not severe but enough to notice...what is severe is the belly hair loss and hair loss around the hind legs they all have bald butts, and dark tiny spots that are apearing on all of them and they are appearing on belleies . Paws and nails seem to loose hair the same way..hair turns black(inside the paw) , shortens and falls out...nails look yellowish with lines followed with dark streaks running toward paws usually one streak per nail runs from end of nail toward paw.. lately hair loss is beggining to occur around eyes and beard area, fleas have been a yearly ordeal we battle...I constantly comb my guys and use advantage. I shaved some spots where the hair is really thick , but hard to shave on legs....it seems it needed to be shaved ...very thick and white scaley skin when I eventually got to the skin..the hair I shaved seemed very tough, and bunched matted together...never seen something like it...and all of the dogs have this. I shaved one of my dogs completely...underneath was a whole new coate and color...the hair I shaved on spine..was just discolored and brittle.....I am thinking of shaving all of the dogs 5 total....I really dont know what they have...but they itch, chew, and 1 especially is in total itchy state all of the time..I think the rest just deal with it.....Ive used olive oil....witch in my newest brough out a great amount of white mites....but did nothing for the other pups Ive also shaved all of their paws and coated the skin on the paws with udder cream wich helped tremendously...nails cleared, and paw fungus was gone...but shortly thereafter its right back fullblown yellowish brittle nails, pink paw skin and hair falling out. hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, olive oil, cooking oil, seems I need something stronger..or I am way of track..I have never messed with their diets...dry food....is that next???..its getting frustrating,...and home remedies are all I can afford...I know they all have the same type bug......any ideas???? The worst is my female 7 years old...lumps under arpits occasionally, but a pretty consistent gray flakey purple 1 by 1 inch patch of scaley dry elevated skin, on her inside thigh near reproductive organ...sometimes one apperas on the other side..perfectly semitrical in position of her inner thigh they are like mirror images when she has both spots..but lately just that one. I make some progress but I never get it fully gone and clear. She also itches constantly I pet her and she goes nutts because its eleveating the itch she has inner thighs high on ribcage, and tail..lately chest and neck are her spots for itchiness...those spots on her do have red tiny elevated bumps that come and go. as for the rest of them they dont have it as bad from what I can tell...but the flakey, baldy spots and discoloring is deff their....please help.....sorry if this was confusing.....IM OUTTS BREATH AND FINGURES HURT...BUT i KNOW THEY NEED HELP AND iVE RUN OUT OF IDEAS i NEED A BRAINSTORM AND GOOD HELP. thnks...again this was prob confusing...best I could do at 5am with all these guys looking at me sad..ready to eat....hope someone can help...gotta feed the little ones... Thanks again for any:confused::hammer::confused::hammer: inquiries.:confused::confused::hammer::hammer::confused: oh ages.. 2 males one is 7 my newest is a year old and 3 females 12, 7, 10, all indoor dogs with no history of major problems and all are current on shots and fixed, with no signs of weakness or not having an appettite...

Okay .. old fashioned remedies.... get a large bag of salt.. sea salt or whatever.. COVER YOUR YARD IN SALT starting against your house make it thick all the way around.. NOW use Salt as a carpet freshiner so to speak and cover all the floor in your house with salt; wait 30 mins and vaccum.. be sure to empty vaccum into bag and seal throw away.. Very few insect live in the great salt plains for a reason......... That will kill the fleas naturally.

You need to give your dogs a bath with a lil cap full of bleach in the water (NOT MUCH just a dab will do) or a Castor Oil bath again (NOT MUCH just enough to cover the pets body and chin) Most likely you will have to deworm them again after you get all the fleas gone.
Get rid of your fleas and you should be (RATHER) your dogs shall be just fine. After you give your dogs a bath and they are dry; dab calmine lotion under arms and at around the taint.

Thats the way to do it if your low on funds and cant afford all the new fangled store bought products.

I'm sorry but I don't understand you having 5 dogs that you can't afford to have vetted. Can you take the worst case to the vet for a skin scraping? Could be mange, could be reactions to the advantage, could be allergies, could be anything. What do you feed for food? Sounds to me like a form of mange because all of your dogs have it. That is the only thing I can get from the problems you have described. Can you post pictures?

Yee Haw! Sounds like you got sarcoptic mange. It is very contagious and can get on humans so if you start to itch you need to take a shower with lice shampoo. You rub the shampoo all over your body and sit with it on there for about 10 mins then rinse. You might have to do that a few times. Sarcoptic mange is hard to diagnose it is not like demodex mange where you can do a skin scrapping and see it. the mite burrows under the skins and why a scrapping does not produce the mite, you really need to do a biopsy to confirm but if it looks like sarcoptic then just treat for it.

It is hard to get ride of and you will be treating your kennel for about a month or so but make sure you complete the treatment or it will just come back. Trust me I know, I had 18 dogs get and I had to treat that many, it was like a full time job! 5 should not be as bad but it will take work.

Sarcoptic mange is a mite that unlike demodex is contagious from dog to dog. Here is a thread that talks exactly how to get rid of them. Do not skip steps you need all the meds listed to treat it from the inside out. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions.
