Ok so we finally made the switch from Puppy Chow to Di*ck Van Patten's Sweet Potato and Venison. I didn't feed Kratos (4 month old) the new stuff till the next day but we did give him a Pork Ham bone that we bought to chew on to keep busy while we went to a basketball game. My sister in law was here so I figured she'd use her brain and take it away from him and not let him eat just about the entire thing. :hammer: Well before we got home and her not paying attention to him he had a pretty big accident of diarrhea. This was on Wednesday, yesterday he had a good appetite and ate both meals. Last night he had another little accident, not as big as the first. So today he only ate a couple of bites of his food, he still seems playful but just has been sleeping a little more.
When we got his food we got him the wet food as well. Today as I was opening a new can I saw that it had specifically said it was for puppies and dogs. So I looked on all the other canned flavors and the Ultra Premium one was the only one to say for puppies. So my question is could that be the reason for his diarrhea? Or still the bone running threw him?

Puppies sometimes have a harder time with new things. So it could be a combo of all what you have done and changed.
My suggestion is go to the grocery store (baking section) and get some pumpkin pie filler .. you wanna give about a half cup a day until can is gone .. it will help with the stool problem and coat the lining of the stomach so the dog fills better.

If you can find pumpkin... There is a shortage right now so it may take you a few store to find some. Also you want to make sure you get the kind where there is only pumpkin in it not the actual pie filling. You don't want the sugary stuff. Talk about a sugar high
Remember, it sometimes takes a few weeks for your dog's stomach to take to the new food, More so if you just switch the food cold turkey. I would try to avoid any other new types of foods until your dog gets settled in on his new food.
I also switch my dog's over a week or so from his old food to his new food to avoid the upset tummy. I start off doing 75% old food to 25% new food, then after 3 or 4 days do half and half, then as the old food runs out, I do 75% new 25% old, then after a day or two I just mix the new food into the old food's container and call it good.
My pups bowels didnt agree w the dvp when I slowly introduced so I stopped feeding. But he can go between solid gold hunckin flockin and wellness large breed pup no problems. But the DVP meat rolls are great for high reward training treats. Just my experience.
Thanks for all the replies everyone. :woof: Kratos seems to be doing a bit better, I've just noticed that he's lost a little bit of weight. I'm guessing it's due to the lack of eating and the diarrhea. Today he ate his entire morning meal with no problem.
I have one more question about DVP... Can I still give him fish oil? Or does DVP have enough that I don't need to? I just don't want to give him to much of it. I had stopped giving it to him when I started giving him the new stuff. I just don't want him to start getting his dry skin again.
My girl has been on DVP since she was 3 month old and yes I still give her fish oil three x a week.
