Do YOU worry about your dogs HEALTH more than YOURS?

I was thinking as I was jogging on my threadmill a little while ago. I am always hearing how people want to condition there Pit Bulls/dogs but what about yourself? Are you in the best shape you could possibly be in to keep up with your dogs? We are always researching better quality nutrition and excercise for our dogs not even considering ourselves or so I assume. I am 100% included in stating this as well. However, over 5 years ago I lost 70lbs going from a size 16 to a size 6. And from a whopping 235 lbs to 165 lbs so I know the struggles of weight. I am 5'8, female (for those who don't know), and very muscular or big boned. I had always been an athlete through my school years playing girls baseball and soccer. In High school I weighed about 175-180 throughout my days there. After high school I stayed the same for years, had my daughter at 26, and went right back to my old weight. After 10 years of being with her dad and splitting up amongst other life struggles depression came a knocking on my door and food became my friend. Before I knew it I packed on many pounds and felt miserable. It wasn't until the pregnant comment that I received that made me take a turn for the better and gave me a WAKE up call to get up off my BUTT and MOVE!! Man, I'm telling you....Baby had back! You could have put a six pack on my butt and it would of stayed there. It was like a shelf! LMAO!!

I am in no way poking fun at anybody because I to have been there, so you shouldn't throw stones in glass houses. I worked hard working out, did portion control with my food, ate alot of greens, whole wheat and whole grains and I am proud of what I have accomplished through motivation and discipline all by myself with no Jenny Craig or weight watchers...just common sense.
I am guilty of being a nutrition NAZI online looking for better quality nutrition and supplements for my dog. I have her on MSM, Glucosamine, Flax oil, ACV, and yogurt and just started giving her a half raw, half kibble diet. So, I took a step back and thought...Hey, I don't take any vitiamins or supplements and I would highly benefit from some of the things I give her :hammer: So, just in the past week I started taking vitamins and glucosamine supplements. I already eat a healthy diet but do treat myself to the occassional junk day. You have to live a little bit ;)

So, on that note with the obesity rate so high in this country are you taking care of yourself as well as your dogs? Because without you there is no them

Okay off the soap box :D just sharing my thoughts :flush:

Yes:) Although I'm a very physically fit individual, especially for my age, I worry about everything as far as my pup's health is concerned. If he could talk or didn't live such a short life, comparatively, then it might be different. My pup is all I have, as pathetic as that sounds, so in viewing my pup as my own child, you bet he is of the highest priority to me:) What is MSM, I'm stupid?

I don't think it's pathetic....I think its sweet ;) MSM is basically a joint supplement but here is a way better definition.

MSM Supplement Methylsulfonylmethane Pain Inflammation and Joint Help
Thank you:) Now I see why MSM is so much easier to say!! LOL
My dog has better health insurance...

And she eats better.
I am physically active so I prefer an active dog. Both my dogs and myself are fit. We all eat good. I take my dogs health seriously and I also try to make sure I'm good. I dont think I can run as long as them though but I'm no couch potato.
I'm in pretty good shape. I do crossfit, and lol I have been known to incorporate my workouts for one of my dogs. Can bust a sub 7 minute mile and sub 24 3 mile. So that makes me happy. In high school fastest I ever ran a mile was like 8:30, so quite the improvement by 10 years later. My other has an arthritic hip, and is a total grandma so she usually just hangs out. Or is on a lesser excersize regiment. I dont work my younger dog Maggie that hard cause she is only a year and 8 months old. Bones still haven't fully developed. But she hikes, swims, fetches frisbee, rollerblades with me, jogs, been backpacking once and a small hike( more just camping trip you rough it more). This July-August will be her first trip. A 3 mile hike in, hang for a few days 3 miles out. By next year she will be doing 2-3 mile a day, 3 daytrips. Maggie is the adventure.

I think it's important to keep your dog lifestyle active. Esp when feed you feed higher protein diets, which I do.

And junk days are key! Gets you by. I ain't gonna lie. One of my dogs fav food is lasagna so on her b-day she gets a slice. And once in awhile I by them a slim Jim. They will take a slim Jim over almost any other treat, even the turkey necks and stuff.

And as far as worrying about my dogs health compared to mine. Oh it doesn't compare. I've drilled a self tapping screw thre my thumbnail on accident at work. Yes I unscrewed it out (it was done with power drill) and taped up my thumb after washing it and just kept working. Never went to hospital. Took like 3 freaking months to fully heal, and omg did it hurt. My dog breaks her toenail and infects it I pay for a 850 dollar surgery. I tell my parents if a intruder ever came very first thing I would do is run my dogs to the bathtub and shut the door before I pull out one of my frearms that I lost as sea last year. Pitbulls or not no way would I put my babies in harms way.

Good question, B_N_B. Although I don't eat anything like as good as when I was into bodybuilding, I still do all the cardio my dogs do. My basic principle with them is that I'd never ask them to do something I couldn't do.
My dogs are my workout program! LOL Okay, mostly they are the reason I can't come home from work and just veg out even if I want to. I'm active and sometimes I wish they didn't need so much exercise cause I've already done my share.

I'm in pretty good shape, they are in pretty good shape. They eat healthier and they go to the "doctors" more often. If they could talk they'd probably go less.

My dogs are my workout program!
As they should be :) and the best workout program at that! If I wasn't in the shape I am in now I would of had to of bought an English bulldog to sit on the couch with me LOL! Not a terrier!
They say most people look like their pets....I look more like Bruno then Beia.
Fat and lazy :3

Though I do get them out for walks. Just takes me a while to get motivated. If it weren't for my dogs,I'm afraid I'd be one of "those" Americans.
My dogs eat & exercise with me, except when I run because they're too young still. So they eat lots of fruits, veggies, & yogurt etc...mostly stolen from my plate xD I have to say the heaviest I've ever been is 155 at 5'6 / 5'7....and I am a runner and do regular weight training....:D have to stay healthy to be able to take care of my pups! I think if you eat poorly you're tired all the time and you wouldn't be able to keep up with them?
Equally.

I have a series of exercises I do every morning & go for a good jog every other evening. I've always been reluctant about what I eat, I don't eat fast food much because 1) it's all my mother fed me as a child because it was cheap (single momma) & ended up getting salmonella & 2) I don't like the thought of other ppl making low budget food for me probably because of how sick I got & because I've waited tables & worked in Fast Food - ppl are gross & you don't wanna see what happens behind the scene :( & NO i wasn't one of those ppl. I prefer homemade cooked meals so I know exactly how my food is being preped & what goes into my food, I try to buy all organic items. I have a MVP (heart condition) & a seizure disorder so I try to take as best care of my body as possible & respect it because I only get this one body. ;)

I stopped drinking soda, though coca-cola is my weakness & replaced it with tea, juice, yerba & water. :D
I'm in good shape strength wise, and trying to get into better shape as well. Quite happy with the progress so far. My dog eats better than me, goes to the vet everytime something is up. He's definitely going to be in better shape than me in a week or so, he definitely was last year.
My dog has better care than I, by far.
My dogs have way better health care then I do , I hate doctors so rarely go but any lil sneeze or limp they go to the vet lol { my vet loves us , wonder why? } lol. As far as workouts go I have always been verythin but aftrer injuring my hip and back it hasnt been so great I think I would be alot worse off if it wasnt for the dogs they kinda force me to having to go on walks and jogs , hopefully the pain stays away and we can get back into the swing of things here { been feeling pretty good for the last month , I think thats the longest so far} Dogs and me could really use the extra exercise and now that its warm out thats an added bonus.

Shame on you Angel! Get your butt to the doctors.....your kids and dogs need you. If you don't take care of you, who will? I hate the doctors to but I have to go every year to get checked out. Now that I'm getting older its even more important. I jog alot so my knees can bother me at times from pounding the pavement and I also have a bad back due to getting hit by a car when I was 15 and have been rear ended twice in car accidents. I started taking ostio biflex with msm and glucosamine and after only two weeks on it I felt a HUGE difference in my joints. You should take a bone/joint supplement for your injuries. It wont hurt you and can only help you :)
thanks I never even thought of that , lol the only pills I tried were pain killers and they never worked. I always look in the health department and im totally lost with all the vitamins, supplements, herbals ect lol i usually just leave with nothing { other then omegas for the dogs lol}
