SOOO many questions about this story, HOW and WHY were the dog and child left alone to wander off 1/4 mile in the woods? thank GOODNESS the police didn't shot the dog for protecting his human.

And MOST reports of this story are labeling the dog as dog. Of course the headline COULD NEVER read

"Pit Bull protects toddler lost in South Dakota woods"

I copied the article I found stating its a pit bull below

_______________________________________________________
CUSTER, S.D. - A 3-year-old boy who wandered away from his western South Dakota home and became lost in the woods was protected by his dog, authorities say.
The boy was missing for about an hour Monday before police found him unharmed about a quarter mile from his Custer home, Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler told the Rapid City Journal. The protective pit bull would not let rescuers near the boy, until the boy's father was able to take the dog home.
"He was showing me that this was not my area," Wheeler said of the dog. "I know that look."
Authorities tracked the boy and his dog by following footprints in the snow.
"We took off on a dead run until we found him," Wheeler said more than a dozen searchers, including the boy's parents.
Wheeler said it was not clear if the dog was following the boy or the boy was following the dog.
"I think it was a joint venture," the sheriff said with a chuckle.
The boy had no obvious injuries but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Glad the child is ok. That's a dangerous area to be in for a child, much less a 3 year old child. I wonder too where those parents were.

The dog should be labeled a dog unless it is a breed in specific. This is what we push for when attacks happen, yet I see when a dog does something good then people want the dog to be a pit bull. If the dogs does something bad then there is the debate over it's not pure bred, blah blah..

Can't have it both ways. Either we don't want them all lumped as 1 or we do.

True Holly my problem is the media doesn't care why they are called and use it as dog or pit bull depending on the story. That's what I have issue with. If they followed the example of calling a dog a dog I wouldn't care. They don't. But I hear ya!

I am so glad they didn't say the dog was acting vicious and they didn't shot first and had the sense to get the dad.

How the dad couldn't follow the tracks himself blows my mind that his kid escaped in the snow in the first place.

That's a great post read !! :)
Reminds me of a story an old man told me once about his daughters Apbt caught on nanny cam protecting his owners baby from an abusive sitter.. Sitter called animal control on a "viscous" pitbull towards her and she got caught on tape lol
Anyway
Great read :)

There are no APBTs in the U.S news unless its a "dog fighting ring" exposed.. even then its usually not. I don't keep up with news and Bulldogs in that sense, one of the last was Tants yard..

You never heard the term Bulldog because it doesn't sell, it all "Pits" or "Pit Bulls" unless its something that could be positive then its a dog. I bet it hurt having to say "Pit Bull" in this article and case, won't see anything about that on Tv or papers rest assure agenda stops it.

I had a neighbor about 6 years ago whom was a local station reporter in Georgia, she tried getting me on as a discussion piece regarding a potential law pass which at the time fell through with the county. They wouldn't do it because it was considered "pro" vs. "con''.. Boss told her wouldn't sell and find a victim or your fired, essentially.

Is what it is. I don't cling to positive or negative, let the public keep their heads in the sand drinking that kool aid because in the end none of them truly know what the hell they are on about. Spay and neuter, Pit Bull Attack, Pit Bull Shot After Attack, Adopt NOT Buy For Any Reason, Pro PETA little shits.. Give money to Shelters and mainstream groups or your an evil, self indulgent ass and heartless.

Meh, ill pass.

Either way, glad the kid is alright.. Then again, parents can't keep in check a toddler why the hell do they have a dog to boot?
