Hey guys, I took my puppy in for his second set of shots today and spoke to the vet about getting his ears cropped. She has an availability for Tuesday, but said it will cost $525. She has been cropping ears for 39 years and is reputable, is this too high? Man, I wasn't expecting it to be so expensive! What do you guys think? He is 10 weeks and 16lbs.

It depends on where you live, I get them done for about 200 and for me that's expensive, I remember when it use to be $75. I know ppl out in CA pay around 300-400, maybe you could call around and see what the other vets are charging in your area.

Ah man so I've called around and most vets cost the same, or referred me to the one I was at. I think she's the best, I just don't know if i can drop that much money on a crop and then getting him fixed and his shots AHH lol. I just love the way cropped ears looks =\

Well you said he was just a pup right? You have a few months to save up before his neuter! I wouldn't do that till he matures some like 9months or so
Shots are necessary neuter not so much at this point unless you have a law saying it HAS to be done by 6 months
to not discourage you from doing it of course, just saying it doesn't have to be RIGHT NOW ya know

I would not neuter your dog till he is older like around 12 months to 18 months old. You want him to properly develop before neutering him. Spring for the crop then you have plenty of time to save for his neuter ;).

Also some vets are better than others when it comes to crops, are they doing a show crop or just a plain simple crop? Show crops are more involved and take a skilled hand, just a plain crop is really easy to do and should be cheaper. Show crops should include a V cut at the base of the ear to clean up the look. Also check with your vet if that price includes blood work before they do the crop. It is not necessary for them to do blood work on a healthy puppy before going under. If that price includes blood work then find out how much it is without it, could save you are 100 dollars.

That price sounds kind of high to me. I paid $175 for my boy 2 years ago, however, I believe the same place now charges $300 (inflation I guess). And my vet is in a higher cost of living area.

I say you do it! if you have people ref this vet including other vets she prob does good jobs, i promise it is worth it in the end even if it seems like alot of money upfront, just think for the fee you can have 18years of one sharp looking pup ;)

I think I'm going to do it, if I get this new promotion at my job. It'll be like a splurge on something for "me", lol.

But man, that $500 hurts!

For a good job $500 isn't bad really. I mean some places are much higher to crop in like PK said its $300-$900 here is CA. Last year it was lower and then prices rose.

i got a good old fashioned mid-west earcrop for $208 and some change including the collar and meds. around here thats about the norm for price... but the trick is finding a vet that will do it.

i live out here in bfe, ,lol, and the cheapest i can find is 200, i found one vet that would not even give an estimate, due to it varies on dogs and cuts, the vet there dose an assesment on your dog, and there head shape and size, so it's not a generaic cut, i think this will be the vet i choose no matter what the cost, so i think it's not so much the price but the long term looks of the job. good luck!!

What's up everyone? I have a question about cropping ears on my blue nose pit. I live in Mass in the Boston area, my pit just turned 7 months tomorrow on the 8th. Do I have to get it done before he turns a certain age? What's the average price on cropping the ears? Thanks everyone! Pitbull owner for life!!

I thought this resource may be helpful: https://bullymax.com/ear-cropping-vets/ It's a list of every veterinarian that crops ears in the USA (58+ veterinarian clinics). This list was just created this week and all of the information is current. We contacted each business to verify that they do in fact crop ears as well.
lol you're four years late, buddy.
