My puppy has started to eat the neighbor's cat litter/cat poop. We've asked them to throw away their pet's crap but my puppy still finds them and in some cases, she drags a bag of kitty litter around. (The living situation is a bit complicated and annoying) When she doesn't smell like cat crap/litter I treat her and let her do whatever she wants..............When she does, I don't give her any treats and she gets a very stern BAD GIRL. The days she does eat the poop, she throws up her normal food. - note - she has just been switched to regular food from puppy food....but even with the puppy food, she eats kitty poop. I'm like 80% sure she's finding cat poop..

I looked online and tried things I've read - I clean up their pet's droppings every so often, we trimmed the back yard so I could see the ground better, I'll feed her first and then let her out, I will run around and play with her to keep her distracted.....but in the mornings, I mean, I'm groggy and she needs to potty so I let her do her thing while I slowly wake up.......come to find she just stinks of cat crap!!

It's getting to be really aggravating and the back yard is shared. No fence, nothing. Somebody, ANYBODY please PLEASE give me suggestions.

Honestly, scolding her after the fact will do nothing but confuse her. She will not understand that she smells like cat poop so she's getting corrected, dogs don't make connections like that. Unless you catch her in the act, it's pointless. Honestly there's not much you can do if you aren't directly supervising. I would just take her out for her bathroom breaks on leash so you have direct control over it.

I would stop giving free access to the yard and got for walks in the street avoid off leash in the yard until you work with the people who are leaving the litter outside where the dog can get it.


I guess I'm confused is the cat an outside cat? Why is there litter outside for the cat to use? It doesn't really matter just got me all nosy wondering who uses cat litter for outside cats lol

no, the inconsiderate people pick up the cat litter, put it in a bag and then just toss the bag outside in the back yard...even though their trash can is in the front of the house, literally 2 feet from the front door.

good for you.... i know i don't like cats but they really don't match well with our dogs.

i really am not a cat person either, but i do believe...dog owner, cat owner, goat owner whatever....you should pick up after your animal and discard their feces in the proper place - a trash can - NOT in a yard. especially if other animals roam that area. these people claim to be animal lovers, yet, no respect for anyone but themselves. never picking up after their dogs and leaving cat poop/empty kitty food and kitty litter literally farther than where their trash cans are. in my book, that proves what type of person you are. no matter how many animals you "rescue" or try to "help" you have no respect and shouldn't own any animals. their dogs have no training or respect either. they come up to our door yelping, growling and scratching at the door and they don't come to retrieve their dogs, just yell at them. im glad they're gone. i just have to do one HUGE sweep of the yards. they would throw bbqs and leave trash all over the place so i have to pick up their crap so lyla won't eat the crap they leave behind.

i even found her licking up beer before. disgusting excuse for humans.
