PARKER, FL -

The incident occurred on Dec. 10. The two pit bulls, one gray and one red, were trying to rip Annie from the confines of the Grignot's deck.
The incident has prompted city officials to look into ordinance changes that would deal with incidents such as the one that happened to the Grignots.
Michael Grignot did what he needed to do. He was in the right, police officials said.
"It was justified to defend himself from serious injury or death," Parker Police Chief Charles Sweatt said.
According to Sweatt, dogs are allowed to be off their leashes as long as they are under verbal control of the owners. Changes in the ordinance could require all dogs to be on leashes if they are off their owner's property or not in a secured area on the owner's property.
Sweatt said the city had not had any increase in dangerous dog attacks over the last few years.
Still, pit pull attacks have been in the headlines for the past few years and many cities have banned pit bulls from their communities. Denver, Colo., is one.
Grignot said he hasn't talked to the people who owned the pit bulls.
"I've never talked to them," Michael Grignot said. "I don't know if I would want to."
The Parker City Council has a special meeting on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and animal control is expected to be discussed. It will likely be revisited at a later meeting.
But Michael Grignot wants more to be done than just requiring owners to have dogs on a leash. He wants pit pulls banned from the city.
"These things can kill a child," Grignot said.
And they have.
Makayla Woodard, a 5 year-old girl from Waxhaw, N.C., was mauled to death by pit bulls that had prompted police calls before.
"Something has to be done," Kathy Grignot said. "They are roaming all over the neighborhood."
