Hello Guys ;)

Just to say hello and hope to get some knowledgable advice from yous guys.

moved to Canada from Glasgow in Scotland in april this year and all my life been wanting a APBT but due to the dangerous dogs act in the uk as yous will know they are banned, always wanted one as remember seeing them when i was younger before the ban came into effect.

got a few questions which i apologise if yous have answered before, not had a proper view of the forum yet.

1) was unaware of the diff breeds of pitbulls i.e Razors Edge, Gotti, Purple Ribbons, Bully etc, is there a guide on here of which is which or if a member could show me (Appreciated).

2) Where in Alberta is trusted breeders in which i can get one.

Thanks Guys

Colin.

welcome .
the razors edge and gotti are bloodlines not types and those bloodlines are american bully lines. You can learn alot more on the bullys by reading in the bully 101 section on here there are pictures to show the difference between them and the APBT. although both can be registered as APBT its good to learn your bloodlines so you can tell exactly what you are getting.
"PR" means nothing more then purple ribbon and majority of UKC dogs now are PR it just has to do with so many ancestors back being registered with the UKC meant more when they allowed single registrations but since they dont now most are all PR . means nothing as far as value or quality.
In alberta I know of a few breeders and a few here in BC { im canadian as well} but it will depend on what exactly you are wanting , and for what. Are you looking for showing ? working? just pet? what is your lifestyle like active wise? APBT do have a bit higher drive and will require more work to burn that energy bullys can be athletic and active as well depends on the class . { there are 5 different classes, best to google ABKC and read up on the site about each class to get a better understanding of this} Once you decide what you want in a dog and narrow it down to either the american bullys or APBT we can help with some good breeders to checkout. There are some in the states as well who can ship and are very reputable , few of them on this site so that might be an option as well.

Welcome to GP! Lots of great info here so stick around and learn as much as you can, especially BEFORE getting one of these great dogs. APBTs are the most amazing dogs however they are not for everyone. The more you educate yourself up front the more you should be able to decide whether or not a pit bull is right for you.

You may want to see if you can locate a pit bull club or organization in your area and see if there are any upcoming events where you can see the dogs in action and see first hand how amazing they are. Also a good place to meet responsible breeders and other fanciers who can help you make the right choice for a future pup (or dog).

Also, Razors Edge and Gotti are American Bully bloodlines. ABs were originally bred from APBTs and/or AmStaffs but are now a separate breed with their own registry. Purple Ribbon is a UKC term meaning that the dogs have 6 generations of known ancestors (I think) and is pretty common anymore so doesn't really mean anything special. There is only one "breed" of APBT and that is the APBT. There are other breeds that are commonly known as "pit bulls" and those are American Staffordshire Terriers, Stafforshire Bull Terriers and American Bullies, to name a few :)

ETA: Ha ha Angel, I knew someone was going to beat me to it when I finally posted my reply. I had to go gget dinner off the stove. :D

Thanks for the welcome and advice guys

well i have no experience in the show scene so really looking as a pet as said before always wanted one from a young age.

have our own home with big garden and i know they are an active breed of dog and would be well walked gf likes to run so would be taken on runs with her and on cycles with me, and from a young age i would have them socialised with other dogs.

will check out the bully 101 section for info but i'm not sure if a bully is for me as i have read that the bullys are more bred for bulk and size for fighting which is not for me as i'm not one for dog fighting, these are a beautiful breed of dog that has that stigma attached to them which i know will always be with them (unfortunately), so mine will be a family pet not a status symbol.

will google abkc and read up as much as i can.

Angelbaby if you can direct me to some breeders in alberta in which i can check out would be amazing thank you

and again thanks for your help guys ;)

the bullys are not bred for fighting they are bred as show dogs and although bulkier then the APBT they can be agile and athletic as well. What you described the bully as being bred for is actually more fitting for what the APBT was bred for originally. Ill let the APBT people educate you more on that though I dont want to get facts wrong ;)

Well if you're not hung up on having papers you could always rescue from a local shelter...

Also that comment on AmBullies being bred bigger for fighting is not true. In general American Bullies are less dog aggressive than the APBT.

And socialization is a good idea however will not guarantee that the dog will not develop dog aggression. APBTs were historically bred as fighting dogs for centuries and while dog fighting is no longer legal the trait is retained in the breed. Yet another reason that they aren't a breed for everyone.

Cheers for the comments guys, as with the comment with the bullies bred for fighting no offence intended was just a comment i read somewhere just wanting an overall view of the diff breeds and traits so all info i can get the better ;).

so the bullies are less aggressive than apbt's.

can anyone give me more info on the diff bloodlines i.e what is the diff between gotti's and razors edge is there diff in looks temperment etc ?, and the diff between these bloodlines and apbt's (pics would be advantageous lol)

and as stated moved to canada from scotland recently so have no knowledge of where or if there is any pitbull clubs in my area.

Again thanks guys ;)

ya just read up in the bulies 101 for the bloodline questions most of the thread have pictures to show the history of eachline . reading up on the ABKC 's different classes willhelp you understand the different syles and sizes of am bullys as well.
In BC here we joined the Western Canadian APBTC club for weight pulling, you might want to look up any local clubs in your area and try and make a few shows see the dogs hands on. ABKC doesnt offer anything in Canada thought so its harder to find the bully shows. If you have AKC you can look it up to go see the am staffs, the Ukc you can see the apbt's the ADBA you can see a different style of APBT then you do at the UKC. This might help in your decision seeing the dogs hands on and seeing what they are about , good way to meet some breeders.
