Hinds Co. judge to hear appeal in dog attack case
Associated Press
JACKSON, Miss. - A Hinds County Court judge on Jan. 16 will hear the appeal of Travis Williams, convicted in Hinds County Justice Court of possession of a vicious animal.

The case involves an attack on a Byram man by two pit bulls in 2005.

Williams was fined $500 and ordered to pay up to $2,500 for the boarding of the dogs at the Mississippi Animal Rescue League. A justice court judge ordered one of the dogs put to death.

Williams appealed the conviction in October.

According to sheriff's department reports, Williams' two pit bulls attacked Allen Kelly of Byram in December 2005 while Kelly was riding his bike around the neighborhood. Kelly, 67, was mauled for about six minutes by the two dogs that were being housed down the street at Williams' mother's home, deputies said.

The animals broke Kelly's shoulder in three places and left a six-inch gash on one leg, about 50 additional bites on his body. His medical bills totaled $20,000.
