I'm new to the forum and the whole dog owner, pit scene. I bought a big boned, purebred, gotti-line, pitbull pup 2 nights ago and hit the web lookin for the best forums for info on diet, and training. This forum looks solid. Glad to be here!

American Bully. I'm sorry, lol. I'll get it right I promise! I'm all about soaking up all the information that I can. I had seen "bully" used in descriptions. I was under the impression that just meant it was a pitbull that stood low to the ground (15-18"). If that sounds completely stupid I apologies again. This breed pops up under pit searches is why I thought that it was of the pitbull ped.

Thanks for the Bully link also. I'll start in on that shortly.

Pics to come today as well.

It can be a bit confusing because some AmBullies get registered as APBT's. The link Lauren gave you will help you understand the difference in the two breeds.
Welcome aboard and I hope to see more of you and some cute puppy pics ;)

Welcome, im thankful your actually willing to learn and correct yourself! The earlier you do so the better! Lots of misinformation out there especially from breeders of American Bullies that claim them to be American Pit Bull Terriers.

You've come to an excellent place to learn about both breeds and many others, be sure to also research Breed Specific Legislation as much as you can.

I'm trying to grasp the feeding concept first. Raw vs Kibble. I bought Acana kibble along with Natures Variety Bison medallions. I guess I dont needa be feeding both. Trying to get a full grasp of that..

As to food, there are plenty of threads and info out there to look at. Stick with what works for you and your pup. Personally Acana is pretty good kibble, i feed Orijen and swear by it. Excellent results all around, same company produces both.

Raw, as ive said in another thread today i love the idea of it. However ive never known of anyone to feed 100% raw throughout adulthood and senior years without using kibble in addition or other alternatives. Its great in theory but i have yet to see someone truly stand by it using it 100% as a feeding method. So as far as that goes, i don't personally see it.

If you want something that uses both the idea of raw but in kibble form, check out Orijen. I personally feed Orijen 6 Fish and Regional Red. However they do have puppy formulas as well, these kibbles are high in Protein so you would want to do a trial if you chose to try it to make sure your pup will like it.

I have always fed high protein diets as long as i've had dogs with no problems. You just need to make sure you A. make sure they have plenty of water during the day and B. right after feeding make sure your dog stays relatively calm (not jumping, off the wall) for a good 15 - 45 minutes to limit bloat risks.

I feed both, Nature Variety Beef Medallions + taste of the wild kibble

My chihuahua gets the medallions only + cottage cheese

My Bully dog gets this :

Welcome to the forum! Great looking boy :) I have had dogs all my life and the whole nutrition thing makes me CRAZY!!! Everytime I think I am feeding the best someone else says there is better. Acana is a great food but to high of protein can cause knuckling over in a puppy as I have learned by it happening to my girl. So watch for that......You are also going to get ALL different opinions on what to feed so do what is best for you and what works best for your pup. :)
