I keep seeing pics and threads of these weight pulling dogs at about 45-55 pounds... My my dog which is a pitbull/ American bulldog mix is 1 yet old today and weighs 70 pounds.. Is that abnormally large? He isn't fat.
Well it's a mutt so you never can tell how big they will get. I have a friend Who has a 26lb APBT. They are not big dogs. There are a few types of American bull dog (http://m.voices.yahoo.com/the-5-different-types-american-bulldogs-7404818.html) so it also depends on which type your dog was off of. To be honest though most people do not know their dogs are overweight. If you feel comfortable put up some pictures from the side and top If you want opinions.

So I wanted to come back to this for a second now that I got a couple good pics of John Wayne... I do not believe John is overweight at 70 pounds, what's y'all's thoughts?
For a APBT yes, that would be abnormally large... But your dog isn't an APBT, so you can't go by those standards! For an American Bulldog Mix, that seems about on point.
If you're asking about WP... No, your dog isn't too large for weight pull. All breeds of all sizes can do it.
Ok, let me back up and say that PB/AMB is the best educated guess I could come up with... When he was given to me I was told that he was 100% white blue nose pit... Not sure what you guys think? But here are some pics I have on hand and I can take better ones tonight. These are all pretty reccent though.
Exactly my point... I hope the person whom originally purchased him didn't get screwed buy paying for something they weren't really getting. I rescued him at zero cost to me.
I could definitely see where someone would think APBT if they weren't familiar with the breed. I have 3 friends with American Bulldogs and yours looks just like there's. Handsome boy btw
Love it!! Do you call him "The Duke?" Lol my grandma is obsessed with John Wayne. She owns every movie he's ever made and has an autographed picture of him.
He looks okay. I would probably take a couple pounds off of him, but that's just personal preference. I like to see a couple ribs.
Could you post a stacked shot on level ground? I'm wondering if his back isn't a bit swayed, and if that's the case, you might be better off keeping him on the thinner side.
I can try, he's just so full of energy it's hard to get him to stand still sometimes. Up to this point I've over fed him, was probably giving him 5-6 cups a day but I am giving him much better food now and the proper portions and more exercise, so shoul see a big improvement in the next month. I will post up pics in another month, hopefully should trim up nicely.
