Why do dog eat grass

You can think of grass as an herbal medicine. It acts as an internal cleanser, expelling excess mucus, bile, and other impurities. It also cleanses the bowels and expels worms. Cereal grasses contain enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Grass also contains chlorophyll, which was used for relieving pain, treating infections, ulcers, skin diseases, and anemia prior to the use of antibiotics.

Lauren, people always tell me something is wrong with Mel if he eats grass. He will eat it every time he is on it, non stop, if I would let him. It does not seem to bother him and it usually just comes out the other end. People say I am feeding him the wrong food. I say he just likes to munch on grass. Should I be concerned? (I feed him blue buffalo Chicken and brown rice)

How funny is it that I had an Austrailian Cattle dog who used to eat as much grass as cattle and he never threw up and was always fine LOL! But then on the other hand I had an Alaskan husky who would eat grass and with in minutes throw up. I've always heard that dogs with upsets stomachs will eat grass to help them feel better. But then my cattle dog just ate it because he liked it and I let him. Especially this time of year when it has a sweeter taste to it. However, now that I think about it my ACD had some GI issues so maybe it was his "herbal remedy" to cure himself and make his gut feel better.

RIGHT! He acts like its candy. and when it starts to grow he loves the tops, lol. I am thinking the same, herbal remedy or addiction, lol.

My dog is a cow, and people always try to tell me he's sick. Yet my small circle of dog folks I know around here have or have had "cow dogs".

lol I had 2 little kindergarten kids tell me pep was a cow { i used to take her for walks to the school to get my daughter and we went right before she had pups like 2 weeks before she dropped} he teets were HUGE and hung so low and she is black and white like a cow , shoulda seen the lil smirks on those boys faces for like 5 minutes whispering and laughing and pointing at her. finally one boy looked up at me and said " She's just like a COWWWW" lmao I laughed it was cute......... sorry off topic I know just reminded me of that LMAO.

Dogs that go outside and eat grass do this for 2 reasons.
1. To get rid of the Acid in there system.
2. To get vit A & fiber in there stomach/system
