I know genetics/breeding play the largest part in how large a pup will be when fully mature. So in your opinion's Is my pup abnormally large for is age? he is just 9 weeks old and around 22lbs he is ukc registered as an American pit bull, but he looks more like a bully to me I did not get a chance to see the parents, no matter what his size or shape I will love him the same. He is my first bully breed pup. His name is dozer here is a couple of pictures
Dozer next to our friends 10month 55lbs husky
Dozer just appears to be very large for his age.
Any thoughts or opinions welcome good or bad, I am here to learn as much about him and his breed as I can. Thank you
Sounds like you may have an American bully. Do you know your pup's sire and dam's registered names? We could tell you for sure if they are searchable on one of the pedigree databases like bullypedia.
oh OK, so how can I find out my two pitbulls exact bloodline if there parents aren't registerd right now I can only go buy what the sellers told me my dogs were? ??
so would I be able to breed my dogs, and would I be able to get a pedigree by word of mouth for my litters to come based on what I was told my pups were which is a Colby, and a razors edge/ greyline
oh and thank for responding to all my questions you are helping me a lot I appreciate it it so much, I'm Nee to this site and overwhelmed with allthe knowledge you guys have ....
If he's registered you will be able to see bloodlines that way. You did say he's UKC registered? If you give parents names someone can look them up for you. But if there are no papers there is no way to tell what bloodlines you have. A lot of byb will spew out known bloodlines to help sell their puppies when in fact they don't even know and you are more likely to get a mutt.
I'm confused too, but my guess is that the OP was told that the dogs were UKC registered but never actually received the documents to register the pup when picking it up. Which would make me question wether the patents actually are registered.
Click. Treat! back on topic people. lol, I thought I was only going to have to train one pup lol. just kidding I don't mind people are here to learn. My question, "Is my pup abnormally large"? I was told he should be 100-130 lbs fully matured. Thank you
The answer requires more information. If you have the dam and sire's registered names we can possibly tell you whether your dog is apbt, am staff, bully or a combination thereof. If I had to guess based off the limited amount of information provided I would probably say you have an American bully - XL class in which case your puppy is not abnormally large.
I dnt see him being 100 let alone 130lbs and healthy. I only own big dogs and he will most likely be in the 70-90lbs range. They significantly slow down the weight gain as they get older.
A good guess is double 4 month weight. Our puppy weighed close to that when he was around that she but slowed down a lot. He's around 60 now and he's around 6 months.
He may be chunky now, but his growth may slow down considerably around 4-5 months. Some dogs start growing like a weed right out of the whelping box, but stop growing earlier than a dog who has a more consistent slow growth.
