Beastley is scheduled for surgery on the 20th. We had no choice, he is rarely using his leg and limping on 3 legs. I am at my wits ends. I'm not sure what to expect or how to prepare for it.

Beastley has never been in a crate since he has been with us even though we use C&R methods. He has his own bedroom and sleeps on a bed. I doubt he will be allowed on the bed for fear of jumping while healing. I know he will be messing with the stitches and the cone of shame will not work with him. We went through 3 when he was neutered, it simply freaked him out and he kept jumping around until he shredded them off his head.

I have taken 2 vacation days to stay with him when he gets home. Does anyone have any advice on how to make him comfortable and safe (no licking or pulling at stitches)while he heals?

What about a toddler size pair of sweat pants? Is it the front leg? a sweatshirt or t shirt will work. have you tried different collars? My problem with the collar when my boy had stitches was his scratching more than licking, so the kid size sweatshirts with the arms cut off worked really well (as long as I remembered he had it on when we went to go outside to use the bathroom, I forgot a few times like a dope, that's why after 3 weeks of needing them he ended up with 6 coverups lol But when I left I always put the donut on him. (he destroyed numerous ecollars as well, the donuts he hates, but its on his collar and makes him bounce off the walls so it works for him great)

I have NOT tried this one, but it looks really good:

This is the one I use currently and have had great luck with:

I am really sorry you and Beastly have to go through this. Anxious for surgery no matter what it is. Good thoughts! I also got my boy a few extra kongs so I could put a bunch of stuff in them and have them already freezing, pumpkin and peanut butter are his favorite in his kong. Or how about some marrow bones from the butcher?

It is his rear (L) leg. Maybe little boy pjs with appropriate cut outs lol might work. I will check out those links. I want to be ready when he comes home.

totally! Plus it would not hurt grabbing one the other preventive things and get him used to it before you take him in. Try putting it on him each day for a little bit. AND make sure to bring it with you to the surgery or they will put one on and charge you for it. (at least they did that to me, I had mine just didn't think to bring it with me)

Good idea I will order it now so I will have one when I go. His neck size is 26" do you think a XL will fit him?

I don't know about the bite not one but the donut on is expandable to get the Xl or Xxl maybe if they make it? A Velcro just keeps it together like it has a slice on it to work with the collar
