he's still a puppy... Give him time
:goodpost:If you're looking for a dog who is going to protect your family, you might want to look for something other than an APBT. What your pup is showing is typical APBT personality, they are very loveable and affectionate to humans. Human aggression is a serious fault in this breed, so if you want your APBT to be a guard dog, it's most likely not going to happen. He might be protective, but not aggressive, that's just not how the breed naturally is. Basically if someone were to ever threaten you or your family, it's not likely that he will be aggressive toward anyone, it's just not in their blood. My boy is protective, such as barking when someone knocks on the door, but as soon as I let the person inside he's all wiggles. lol.
Pitbulls are just not naturally aggressive towards humans, in all the history of the dogmen who bred pitbulls back when dogfighting was popular, they were always bred to be dog aggressive, but never human aggressive, because they couldn't have a dog being aggressive to a human while fighting them. So human aggression has long been bred out of the pitbull, and any pitbull that is aggressive towards humans is a serious flaw and a huge risk to anyone, especially a family.
I hope that helped a little, your boy is just doing what he's naturally meant to do.![]()
like i stated before, any dog can become human aggressive without proper socialization, training and supervision. they may have not been bred into the dogs but it can happen. i was guilty of spreading false facts like that also a few years back until i did some research. can't help it though when i read it in books and see it said over and over again in specialized forums. then i read stuff about old school dogmen....some from actual dogmen, and just throws a new spin to everything i thought was true. lol. dogmen just cared for one thing, and that was winning. here's a few FYIs. the last link about Colby really surprised mein all the history of the dogmen who bred pitbulls back when dogfighting was popular, they were always bred to be dog aggressive, but never human aggressive, because they couldn't have a dog being aggressive to a human while fighting them. your dog is still a pup and you won't know how it'll turn out until it starts to mature and it's balls drop. other than that, they're just like babies, enjoy them while they're young.I must not be using the right words because no one seems to be getting the gist of what I am talking about here. Thanks for the input though. He is an awsome pup and myself and my girls will enjoy his company for many years. Infact, he's sleeping on my office chair behind me as we speek.
yes in today's day and age manbiters are probably culled but back then not really. i'm just saying, like any other breed i would think HA isn't a natural trait or breed requirement. regardless of breed, proper training, socializing and supervision is a must. for an example, even though not naturally aggressive towards humans, an apbt raised and exposed only to it's owners may become fearful and/or aggressive towards strangers if it wasn't properly socialized. the rottweiler and german shepherd went through what the apbt because of irresponsible or ignorant owners. you know how it is with good news, people quickly forget or don't want to hear it, but when there's bad news, that's all they can talk about and remember. The truth about dogbite.org and the lady who runs it is Colleen Lynn she has made it well known she hates our breed so I wouldn't exactly count anything from this site as truthful nor credible.
