Hi all,

For a while I posted regularly on here, but haven't in a hot minute. So I thought I would pop in and say hi and also share some recent updates.

So I decided to turn my two dog household into a three dog household. I had been looking at apbt and amstaffs a lot, looked into staffies a bit as well, and even kind of fell in love with working OEB (Olde English Bulldogge - a newer breed where English Bulldogs had apbt and Bullmastiffs crossed in to make them more athletic and functional). And during that search a little Shorty Bull came across my path and while it is not something I ever would have looked into getting, this pup has good drive and should be a great little sport prospect that has a lot of the great traits I love from the other breeds in a pintsize package.

So welcome Spider (name is still under debate); I'll pick her up Nov. 13.

Will do!!!

Also, I forgot some other recent news. Recently had a GRC event here in Colorado and my bully finally passed his Social Responsibility test (the qualifier to do sports) and then we got to do sprinpole, slat mill race, and weight pull. He's still not pulling much to speak of, but did a great job pulling as a relatively inexperienced dog. Here's a picture of he and I celebrating passing our test (6th attempt).

This is Spider, officially now. Hoping she will be a great sport dog. She is a shorty bull (French Bulldog, English Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier). So far she is very savvy and integrating well enough with my bully. She and the spaniel were fast friends.

She's wicked cute! Congrats on the new addition! When she hits about a year old you'll want her evaluated for BOAS buy a board certified surgeon. Especially if you want to do sports with her. Get used to people asking you about your Frenchie, especially since her ears on cropped. It won't matter how beefy she gets or how much she doesn't look like a Frenchie. I get it all of the time and Geach is cropped to breed standard. It's cool to have another Shorty on here. I look forward to seeing her grow up. :)

Thanks for the info about testing for BOAS. Supposedly there is a good bulldog specialist down near Denver I can take her to for that. We'll hit a year at the end of the month. So far she is a dream of a dog. Loving her. She is still pretty lean for a Shorty. I am very used to the Frenchie comments already. 😅 Even funnier because most of the time her ears are folded forward. I love that they stick up like big old Frenchie bat ears when she is excited. She's far enough off standard that she would have made a terrible confirmation dog, but she is a perfect little sporty dog.

Geach is on the lean side as well. But they beef those muscles out even without work around 18 months. Which is about the time you should wait until to start weight pull or any heavy exercise. They take awhile for their joints to close up and starting to early can cause permanent damage. Geach was strictly light fetch and hand walks until a year. Then I increased his fetch level on grass. Now he's two he can go hard on spring pole and flirt pole all day.

She def favors her dam.

We keep drags mostly at the, acclimate to harness level right now. I am impatient, but pushing myself to take my time with her. Structurally, I think her body and legs are leaning a bit on the Minion side. In terms of head and color she definitely takes after Eris. She has Minion's crazy ears, though!

Those ears may settle down a bit for you in a few more months. I liked Geach's ears as a puppy, but I had originally intended on trying my hand at showing him and crop is breed standard. New job leaves me no time to show. So just pets in my house now. Darn good dogs though. I love the breed.
