Howdy!!! So we got a new baby boy a few weeks ago. His name is Leroy!!! He's 10 weeks now and 26lbs. He's a blue nose tri color with razorsedge and gotti bloodlines. Beautiful markings perfectly healthy calm quiet n sweet as pie! BUT he's growing at an extremely rapid rate!! I have another blue who's 2 and have had several in the past, multiple litters, all shapes sizes n colors but I've never seen a growth rate like this before. At 8 weeks he was 13lbs...in 2 weeks he's gained over 13 pounds!! That's 6.5 lbs a week....he's literally doubled and the weird part is he's not obese or excessively fat in any way...regular puppy tummy but that's it!!! Has anyone else experienced this? I talked to the breeder and he's the largest of the litter by a big stretch! Since nothing bad has come of it I'm going to up his vitamin intake so his bones aren't overwhelmed by his growing but I don't what else to do. I suppose I could switch to a large breed puppy food but i don't want to stunt his growth...plus he's technically a bully... His parents never broke 100 so Im shocked he's a quarter of the way there already! Any words of wisdom?? Suggestions?? Kindly appreciated!!! Thank you!!! :pup:

not uncommon...

some JRB dogs are full grown by 8 months... Same for some whoppers, ... and other various sub strains. While others take full on two years to mature fully.

But whoppers are usually mutts right? He's a pure bred...it is a new breeder I've never used before but I've seen his whole line 5 generations back. I guess il just have to see how it goes the next 4 or 5 months. Maybe he's just gunna be a fat boy...my other pits became full grown at about 2years...if he does the same in 2years he will be massive!!!! Guess that's not a bad thing?!:woof: strange though yea? Could be random gene though right?

you got a razors edge gotti dog but call whopper dogs mutts? RESEARCH!!! Whopper dogs are ban dogs(ban dogs have been around longer than the american bully which is what you have). Depending on what gotti dogs you got in your ped thedog could go 50 different directions. Gotti or razors edge (unless bred responsibly by knowledgeable ppl which is rare) are mutts. Eb xs are very common right now.

Your pitty is just hungry, as long as you see nothing wrong with stool or anything you are doing great!

Be sure you post pictures of them.!

Didn't mean to offend you...I was asking if they are mutts...I know ban dogs are an old breed but I thought they came from mastiffs and American bulldogs...personally I think all dogs are mutts in some way or another...which is good it makes them stronger! I just meant he's full pit not a mix. I know his grow could go in many ways...but I usually base it off the parents and grandparents both of which he is out growing at a tremendous rate. But he's healthy so I'm happy!!! Maybe we can show him!! Or try the whole weight pulling thing...only if he enjoys it of course!! I'm trying to post pus but it's not working!!! Argh!!! I will keep trying!!

Wow the history of the bandog is amazing!!! I had no idea!! I know about them once they hit America but before that?! I had no clue!! The 1300's???? That's incredible!! Thank you for the increase in knowledge!! Maybe my pups got a giant ancestor somewhere and he just got lucky...I'm excited to see what he becomes!!! I'm going to track them as far as I can and see where I get!! This will be fun!! Thank you again...I knew about bloodlines and traights on a basic breeding level but not enough about their true origin!!

Your dog is not a full pit. Its am American Bully, its NOT a pit bull or American Pit Bull terrier. Its a different breed than the pit bull, called the American Bully. You can usually double their weight at 4 months to know what their adult weight MIGHT be, good indicator. Dogs grow big untila year and fill out until 2 years, typically.

Yes my new pup is a bully....however my older dog is an apbt...I guess I'm shocked at the height and weight difference between the 2...they are completely different dogs!!!! Plus most of my bullys family are not as tall...they are wide meatballs for sure but he seems to be getting tall and wide which makes me wonder what mix he came from 20 more generations back...he's doubled all his brothers and sisters which is pretty cool and will most def out grow his folks!!! I'm excited to see him 2years from now

Hey no issues. Definitely didnt mean to come off rude. I took you on face value of a couple posts. Im sorry. Glad you listened RESEARCHED and ultimately learned. I get a little defensive bcuz I have whopper dogs and LOTS of ppl who dont know their butt and a hole in the ground make snide comments. Hope you stick around. The few ppl that posted here will be the quickest to help. Even if we are a little gruff about it.
