In order to keep on top of Kane's training I'm going through the list of commands on this website (LevelBook).

On that list Leave It is included under the name Zen.

Now, Kane knows Leave It as leave that thing alone stop mouthing it chasing it if I put something on the floor you are not to even approach it.

With this Zen exercise the way they do it is holding a treat in your hand and allowing the dog to paw and mouth your hand until they back away from your hand and then immediately clicking as theyre backing away and dropping the treat onto the floor. This way the dog learns that in order to get the treat they need to back away. To continue this exercise at a harder level, they advise putting the treat on a coffee table or something and teaching them Off.

Now I might have had a few drinks, lol but is this the same concept as Leave It??????? They say to work on distance with it so that if the dog backs away 6 inches, click for anything after 6 inches to increase the distance. How would I do this now for Kane who has learned that with Leave It, if it's a treat he can have his mouth on it as long as he doesnt take it and eat it???????

Tahnks yuall. :D

I would say that what you are trying to teach is "back" as in back up or back off of something. I have taught my dogs " back" so when we are say in a door way and another dog is coming and I need to back up in a hurry I say "back" my dogs don't turn around they simply back up for as far as I need them too. I think this is what you are trying to teach with this method althought this is not the way I taught my dog.

Ok. Well, Kane already knows "get back" as in ... "I know I'm bending down but I don't want to be suffocated by your tongue", lol, and "You better move otherwise I'm going to run right over you", so, I'll have to figure out a new command for this.
