I just got my first puppy about 3 days ago and everything is going well.
I have a few questions just to make sure my dog is getting the best care and is ready for everything.

1. He is 5 weeks old going into 6, when should i go get him vaccinated at the vet? Can you name all the vaccinations he will need to get? and an Estimate on the price?

2. When should i put a collar on him and start walking him outside?

3. I'm currently feeding him pedigree for puppy's about 3 - 4 times a day, regular size amounts and then he drinks water. Is that good?

4. I occasionally feed him cold cuts just a little bit, such as turkey, ham, or salami. He loves it! Is that alright?

5. What are some real good treats that i can get for when i start my training?

6. My puppy surprisingly has never pooped or peed on me, even when i have him sleeping on top of me for 2 hours he just doesn't do it. Do all dogs know not to poop/pee on their owner or is it something hes mother probably taught him?

7. What are some must have items for my puppy so he is happy and enjoying himself?

8. If i forgot anything else that should be common knowledge for a pit owner please tell me about it on this question :).

Thanks a lot to everybody for your support so far I'm so happy i found this forum! I've been reading lots of material on here and i find most of it really useful!

Have you posted pictures? I love puppies! I dont have all the answers you are looking for but I will give you some thoughts I do have :) Not sure of your dogs age and what they should get but Get him off pedigree, its doggie McDonalds. here is a listing of what is good and bad. http://www.gopitbull.com/health-nutrition/3749-pet-food-rating-comparison-chart.html

I would stop on the cold cuts, especially when he is young you don't want him to get worms and I know pork isnt really good for dogs.

Cheap dog treats are sticks of cheese or beef hot dogs. But that's not for a few more weeks or months at least. Your excited voice and praise should get you far with the little guy for now. Stay away from ropes, especially if you are not there with him 100%, many dogs teething chew the rope and could ingest it, fine when you start to tug, but not to be left around. Tennis balls also have a fuzz that isn't good when eaten. I use chuck it balls with my boy: Chuck it! Ultra Ball - Large - 1 pack - Free Shipping and for tug toys he loves Katie's Bumpers -Patterned Float 'n Fetch Dog Toys (or I should say I love it, he tugs anything this is easy on my hand)

and please do not ever leave your dog alone with another animal, ever. Even if he is 3 and never hurt a fly, don't let him hang around with your cat or dog without you there. only allow supervised play with other dogs who you know the owners in case anything ever happened. and NO DOG PARKS

1. You should take him in to see the vet right now. He should be started on dewormer as every puppy has worms and then depending on the vet, they will start vaccinations. I like Dr. Jean Dodds vaccination schedule, link here: Vaccination Schedule Recommendations For Dogs . If you want you can ask your vet to follow this schedule and set of vaccinations or make their recommendations based on the area you live in for vaccinations they would include. Most vets give you everything and sometimes too many vaccinations at a time, which can give your puppy a reaction.

2. I would put a collar on him now, but wait a couple more weeks until he's a little older to start taking him on SHORT walks. Puppy's get more tired, sooner, so keep that in mind when walking him.

3. The amount you're feeding him and the water are good, but I would try switching him from pedigree in a couple more weeks when his digestive system is stronger and can better handle the transition from one food to the other. Pedigree is like feeding McDonald's to a dog in terms of health and nutrition and ames provided a great link to do more research into a better dog food.

4. Cold cuts as in sandwich meat? If that's what you mean, that should be fine. Sandwich meat is already pre-cooked. I would make sure you keep the cold cuts as an occasional treat or else use them ONLY for training treats.

5. Like I said in #4 cold cuts can be great training treats. Just a small bit of it, no bigger than the end of your pinky is sufficient for his size. Or what I like to use is the Bil-Jac's training treats. They're softer and you can cut them into quarters and really stretch them out. I pick them up at Petsmart.

6. He probably has just never felt the need to pee or poop on you, I'm afraid, lol. If he's sleeping, he probably isn't going to the bathroom at the same time and you probably take him outside as soon as he wakes up, so.

7. My must-have toys for pups -- a puppy kong, a puppy-sized rope, a stuffed toy.
