Where does this coloring come from? What bloodline carries this type of coloring? I have seen a few pics on here of some but there is also a woman I see walking one on my commute to work sometimes. He is like a red speckled color. They look like they have some dalmation or australian cattle dog mixed in there. I owned a cattle dog who was the speckled red color. Reminds me of him. Just curious cause you don't seem to see that spotted coloring often.

Our old American Bulldog MJ was like that. Her spots were mostly on her skin and not her fur. Is this what your talking about?

some of them are the fur and her skin spots just look kinda like dirt loll

Kangol used to have no spots, but every year they multiply. Skin ticking is just pigmentation-- lack of sunscreen when going outside. It is easier to see on white dogs, but most dogs have skin ticking. I know all of mine do, but Koby's coat makes it hard to see unless you get right up close and look at a lighter spot on his belly. Kangol is my reverse Dalmatian. :)

I'm not a fan of the dogs that have a ton of ticking. I just don't like how it looks.... There are many lines that have ticking pop up but not to the extent of the dogs shown. Pigment spots on the skin are not the same thing as true ticking in my opinion.

:goodpost: agreed ticking is a very distinct pattern it is not spots on the skin. JMO
I had an APBT book that said it ( merle ) was a fault and unacceptable?
Merle is associated with health defects ticking is not. Merle is a fault and considered a mixed breed in the APBT.

Lisa, please explain this to me about the merle/defect correlation. I have a couple of books in my possession that only mention this color as "odd" or "rare" but haven't specified anything at all like defects. Is this similar to the white dog = deafness possibilities or something? Strange colors equating to defects is very intriguing considering all the possible color combos that pit bulls exhibit (still trying to find the picture I saw on the internet of a VERIFIED black and white true RED NOSE pit bull, but that's a different story LOL). BTW, aren't ticks bad on dogs, I mean all that blood sucking going on LOLLOLOLOL?
