About 8 months ago, we adopted an awesome pit bull. She's somewhere between a year and a half and two years old now. A few weeks ago, we noticed some strange behavior in the back yard. We have a few fir trees in the back, and she likes to stick her head (and sometimes whole body) underneath them. When she does, she suddenly starts moving really slowly and gets this dopey spaced out looks on her face. We can call her back to us, but it's almost like she's in a trance.

Today at the dog park, she started doing the same thing under a willow tree. She walked back and forth, super slowly, letting the branches drape over her. This isn't behavior that we necessarily want to change, we're just curious whether anyone else's dog has done this, or any idea why she is behaving this way.

My mother's basset hound does this. She's itching her back.
