A sad day for Texas animal owners and it's only the beginning. Governor
Rick Perry signed the HSUS HB 1451 "Pet Elimination Bill" yesterday, handing
over our state to the radical "animal rights" extremists. It will be very
difficult to put the Genie back in the bottle. The enrolled version of HB
1451 can be found at:

82(R) HB 1451 - Enrolled version - Bill Text

Forget the eloquent language Gov. Perry's been spewing on TV about Texas in
his quest to become president -- our freedoms, love of the Constitution,
less government interference in the private sector, lower taxes and less
regulation in general. It's all about money at the Texas State Capitol now.
House Speaker Joe Straus and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst are also to be held
accountable for allowing all the irregularities that occurred. The most
powerful senior legislators carried the bill for HSUS and THLN: Senator
John Whitmire and Rep. Senfronia Thompson. Rep. Thompson threatened every
legislator that they'd never get a bill through her Local & Consent Calendar
Committee for a Floor Vote if they didn't support her bill. Senator
Whitmire hurriedly called his committee meeting at his desk on the Senate
Floor one time, suspending all rules. Rep. Thompson actively worked the
Senate Floor to get the votes she needed. It was and still is an
embarrassment to see this bill passed in Texas. It couldn't pass on its
merits.

It's only fitting that Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) was the first
to announce the governor's action on their website. (Welcome To THLN - Promoting the Humane Treatment of Animals Through Legislation, Education & Advocacy | THLN) After
all THLN "owns" the Texas Legislature at the present time. THLN's website
proclaims "this session is the most successful in the history of this
organization!" Check it out. THLN is the HSUS lapdog in Texas.

We commented earlier on the division among those from our own ranks this
session and can only reiterate that if we are to take back Texas animal
issues, it will take a concerted effort to work together for the animals we
love. It serves no useful purpose at this time to dwell on the negative but
the divisiveness was very harmful to our efforts. As an "Alliance" of many
other groups, we must become the reasonable voice for animals in our state
instead of the radical animal groups. Who has more animal expertise than
RPOA and our membership?

RPOA has the organization (two organizations, in fact), the office, a
salaried Pet Education, Assistance & Rescue Program director, programs and
all that entails. THLN does nothing but promote legislation, mostly "animal
rights" legislative agenda items. Now that this legislative session is
drawing to a close, we'll get back to organizing our RPOA Area Advisory
Committees. We have chairmen lined up for 16 Committees - only lacking
several areas on the perimeter of this very large state. Hopefully we can
network the entire state better and coordinate our efforts.

Let's hope we can build up a war chest and be ready before enforcement of HB
1451 begins in 2012 or whenever. The way things have been going, those
rules may be suspended also. The only recourse we have now is in the courts
and court cases are expensive. The harassment of breeders has been going on
for some time. Please contact RPOA if you are a victim of any harassment so
we can document your experiences.

RPOA Board of Directors thanks all of you for your hard work this Session
but we know you did it for your animals - just as we did. Remember this is
a war . in the truest sense of the word ... and we've lost a battle but we
haven't lost the war.

As a long time conservative Rebuplican I was so excited at the possiblity of
you running for president. I have been talking you up, following your ideas
and looking for ways to work in a compaign with you for our nations future.
I felt you had freedom and rights at your very heart and that you would look
out for us... until you signed the latest legislation into law. Why would
you sign an all sweeping animal rights backed act on the backs of the very
people you have pledged to protect... opening our homes up to inspections
and placing a value on the rights of animals over the rights of people? I am
just confused and appalled at the broad and open interpretation of this
bill. If you do not have the fortitude to stand up to pressure from the
heavily monied and lawyerd up animals rights groups, how would you ever
protect us as President? I don't own a ton of animals. In fact, according to
the bill I probabably would be just fine with only two non spayed show dogs
and two spayed cats at my house, but... the bottom line is this-- they are
animals,,, Not people with souls. It is a sad day for Texans, and with your
setting a precedent, it is a sad sad day for our country and loss of another
right as humans. I will now need to find another canditate to support. I
wish you health and happiness but, I DO hope that a possible bid for
president will fail, since caving to pressure over the rights of people and
conservative values... is what we already have in our white house.
Negotiating with the fundamental rights of the people you are elected to
protect reveals character that exposes them to risk, and we cannot know
where the limit will be reached.

i think its funny how a government of silver-spoon pansies tries to tell people their rights. ive said it before and ill say it again: the only difference between a right and a privilege is that a right was a priviledge that was fought and killed for- would a kill for my dog, yep!

That is truly sad, indeed. I'm not into politics and when people ask why, I tell them I choose to remain ignorant about politics because I have enough drama in my own life to deal with. To me; and this is just my opinion, politics is like watching soap operas. It's always the same story line, just replace the old actors with new ones. But, I do know right from wrong when I see it.

In this case, I'm ashamed to say that I'm from Texas, thanks to this. There will be an upheaval of polite protests from all over the Lone Star State, as well as from surrounding states; possibly the entire nation, and other countries also.

Lisa2, I'm with you chica. Even if I did bother to get interested (in politics) and decide to vote, (R) Rick Perry would definitely be at the top of my list of who not to vote for.

I'm with you on this too! My dogs are like my children and I would fight to the finish for my dogs/kids.

Tye, that was an excellent sample letter for us to use. I stemmed several ideas while reading it, and I'll post up what I come up with.

Its all about money.......... the $dollars that bleeding hearts come up with are endless. Just talked to Mr. Hammonds about it last night. The bottom line is the dollar, and government loves donations and extra fiscal insenstives. Right now you can't beat the money backing HSUS. It will take all of the people to GET ACTIVE IN POLITICS! The reason Laws are becoming CONTROLLING is because PEOPLE LACK THE INTITIATIVE TO INVOLVE THEMSELVES WITH THE LAWS THAT GOVERN THEMSELVES.. Kinda a :hammer: Oxymoron.. yet WE ALL do it.......

What is this bill basically about? It looks like it's stricter breeding guidelines & stricter adoption center guidelines making sure things are humane for the animals & up to par? If anything, when reading over this bill, I read it as them cracking down on byb.

But isn't that how it always starts?By cracking down on the breeding practices? And I think the big point is that I do not want my government telling me what I can and cannot do.And wasn't that one of his big things while trying to get elected, that he was against big government and all that entails? And now he's telling people what they can or cannot do with their dogs.

I do not get involved in politics, makes my brain hurt but this is why I did not vote, I will vote when a candidate worth my time comes along for me to vote for, and yes Lisa you are absolutely right, total hypoocracy.

I totally agree with you. I read through the bill, sounds like health code inspection, which all businesses go through & it's part of being any business.

From housing, to restaurants, you name it. It shouldn't have to be done but enough ppl treat others & things with lack of respect & inhumanely until it gets to this point that a bill is drawn up then it's a downward spiral & catch 22. But it's not BSL at least.

Has he done anything else like this or is he in the process? I don't know much about him - I know he mentioned his college major is animal sciences. No one's perfect, but He's really working hard to make the border safer & he seems like a decent, legit guy. The world's just so topsy turvy now :(

Awe, don't let it beat you up. Let it inspire you ;). You gotta vote - it's your right girl! Even for the small local ppl, they gotta start somewhere.

In all honesty Candra I have never voted, cause I have not seen anyone worthy of voting for. It may be my right and I know this and it's not htat they beat me down, I just want someone worthy of me voting for. But doing what I do in fighting VSL it has inspired me, is why I fight so hard to kill the laws they try to pass. Hugs thanks girl :D

Anyone want to put it in lame mans terms for me?
I'm just being lazy and don;t wanna read the whole thing :/
Yes, that would make it easier huh? LOL! I googled it and from what I understood they are taking away peoples breeding rights?? Is that right? Correct me if I am wrong. Isn't it targeting puppy mill type people? I really don't see an issue with it targeting people like that across the state and the U.S. in general because they have horrible unethical breeding practices and the dogs live in horrid cramped conditions. Or, are they also going after just the average Joe who has one or two dogs and is breeding  I am confused.....Sorry :hammer:

They are targeting the puppy mills as well as the average Joe, which is why it was put here. I knew Gov. Perry wouldn't be able to help himself, but we will be fighting, I am ok with it targeting puppy mills, but not the average Joe.
