Been waiting to post this to see how things would play out...
Two weeks ago we switched Kylee's food and it only comes in a 30lb bag. So, while we were putting away groceries, she felt the need to defend it.
She has stubby little legs, so she jumps and growls, never makes contact.
Conner snapped back, not aggression, just a dogs reaction. Had it been aggressive, she'd be dead.
However, he did make contact. Popped her eye out a bit. $1000 emergency eye surgery later... Second recheck today, all looks good.
Conner has been a bit subdued, Kylee is not afraid of him.
I was fearing we'd have to re-home him, hubby was PISSED!
So, working with both Pugs to stop being so "in your face". Need to get some basic training on Conner. Would love to hire a professional, as he's so strong and I suck at dog training in general, but it is so expensive!
I got a head halter, hoping that will help.
I was a total wreck, thinking I had to give him up, while he puts his head on my shoulder and sighs. Hubby has mostly forgiven him and realizes it was a stupid accident. Any dog would have done the same.
It's been a tough time, but we are getting through it.
I could only give him up to a friend of a friend and who wants a large, leggy Pittie? Well, I know someone who would take him in a heartbeat, but she can't.
He's still just a big, clumsy, dorky pup, regardless of how big he is. Gotta remember that!!

So sorry to hear BZOO. It's always tough when something like that happens. Hard to fault Conner, as you said, he is still a puppy and is learning. My boy Ranger, who is now almost 16 months has been having a rough time too, part of learning. It is hard because they are so big and strong and we have to keep reminding ourselves that they are still learning. I had Ranger to the vet a couple of days ago for his shots. He acted like a total A-Hole the entire visit. He has only been to my vet twice and last time he came home without his balls. He must have remembered because not only did he refuse to go in the door but he got defensive and was growling at the vet when she was trying to examine him. This led to her putting a soft muzzle on him, which I don't blame her for. I was embarrassed by the way he was acting. None of my dogs every behaved like that. Like you said, gotta remember that he's still a puppy and learning.
Fingers crossed that Kylee's eye heals without complications. Hang in there.

Your story reminds me of our Rosie, rose breasted Cockatoo ( she came named ).
When we have to have her groomed, she SCREAMS as loud as possible and just freaks.
This is probably how she will die.
She ain't real bright, parents were probably closely related.
We don't have her groomed often, makes other customers think the gal doing it is hurting her.🙄
