*MORE INFORMATION ABOUT REQUEST FOR SUPPORT LETTERS DUE MONDAY, FEBRUARY
21, 2011 FOR VILLALOBOS (SAMPLE LETTER AT BOTTOM OF E-MAIL)*

*Please send your letter of support either in the body of an e-mail OR in
a Word attachment.*

DON?T FORGET TO INCLUDE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION (name, address, phone
number, e-mail address if possible).

If you are a Kern County resident, please state in your letter?s subject
line. If you are a Tehachapi resident, please ESPECIALLY state in your
subject line.

*DEADLINE FOR LETTERS: MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2011, MEETING DATE: THURSDAY,
MARCH 10, 2011, 7:00 PM IN BAKERSFIELD.*

The deadline for the support letters for Villalobos Rescue Center?s
Conditional Use Permit hearing is Monday.

Tia has to personally deliver the letters Tuesday morning so they can be
put into the package Planning Commissioners get. The Commissioners need
to read the support and opposition letters prior to the meeting.

Monday is a federal holiday and the post office as well as government
offices are closed. So, that?s why we are asking people to send their
letter on behalf of VRC TO US via e-mail vs. snail mail. There?s not
enough time to send by snail mail.

The e-mail address to send your letter to is pitbullrescue13 @gmail.com
(at gmail.com).

The entity to address your e-mail or Word attachment to is:

County of Kern Planning Commission

1115 Truxtun Avenue

Board Chambers, First Floor

Bakersfield, CA 93301

*TALKING POINTS OF SUPPORT LETTER TO KERN COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSIONERS:*

*WHAT NOT TO SAY:*

Please do not say anything about how the county or community hates pit
bulls or breed, etc. If you send an e-mail with something like "you hate
Pit Bulls, parolees are dangerous, etc" The planning commission will
disregard our side and dismiss us as ?crazy?.

*WHAT TO SAY: *

This is a hearing to decide if Villalobos Rescue Center, Inc. can have a
conditional use permit. That means the organization will abide by all
rules pertaining to this permit. The important points which people should
be making are that Villalobos:

· is not polluting the environment

· maintains a low noise level

· maintains an acceptable dust level

· only takes in the correct amount of dogs that we can comfortably
and well-care for;

· that Villalobos takes proper care of the dogs

Other points to emphasize are:

· The way Villalobos dogs are handled -- professionally and safely

· That the Villalobos kennel is always clean and well maintained

· The barking is kept under control

· Villalobos has a high adoption rate thus they are not hoarders

· Villalobos currently has good relationships and is considerate
of their neighbors

SAMPLE LETTER

From Joe Responsible Citizen and Voter

Address,

City, State Zip code

Phone number and e-mail address if possible

*RE: LETTER IN SUPPORT OF VILLALOBOS RESCUE FROM BAKERSFIELD RESIDENT*

Dear Commissioners:

I am writing to support Tia Torres and her nonprofit rescue ?Villalobos
Rescue Center, Inc.? I watch the TV show on Animal Planet and I am a
responsible Pit Bull owner.

Because I watch the show, I have been educated about making sure my dog is
on a leash. I learned more about pit bulls and how important spaying and
neutering my dog is. I learned that as a responsible dog owner, I need to
have my dog vaccinated against rabies and licensed with my local animal
control.

I think that other communities should have a program like Villalobos to
give more people who have made mistakes a second chance at being a
productive member of society and gainfully employed. This program teaches
the men and women who are lucky enough to be accepted into the program a
great deal of responsibility and self-esteem and gives them a sense of
purpose.

Villalobos? animals are well-cared for, get fed regularly and get lots of
attention. They are responsible about making sure they are not a nuisance
to the neighbors where she currently lives. She has always had a good
evaluation from Animal Control in the 17 years which she has lived in the
County of Los Angeles.

Thank you for reading my letter and making a fair determination whether or
not Villalobos would be an asset to your local community and economy. I
believe they will be an income booster, increase tourism, and give good
public relations to Kern County.

Very truly yours,

Write your name here

that was so appealing. So to move my program up into the secluded
mountains, felt just right.

co-existed there. I've never met this woman and yet a few days ago she
sent out the attached letter. In it she accuses me of "stealing
government money" and basically compares me to the likes of the people
involved in the Diane Whipple mauling.
>
> Never once did she ask me or come to me with concerns as some of the
other nice folk up there have. How sad is it that she complains about
the conditions of their dirt roads being destroyed, when I offered to
cover ALL EXPENSES so as not to have the local residents have the upkeep
come out of their pockets anymore. This woman lives nowhere near the
new place yet she, for some reason wants to shut down an organization
that helps men and women get on the right track to life, counsels
troubled youth, has Girl and Boy Scouts visit on a regular basis and was
willing to become the "unofficial" Tehachapi Animal Shelter and handle
the stray dog population while attempting to find any "lost owners. We
had also set up a "Rewards Program" that we were willing to share with
the local businesses, that would've given them more income and also
bring in more donations for us.
>
> I don't know why this woman is doing this, but if she is successful in
her angry quest, we will not be able to operate as a rescue any longer.
We are doing everything by the book by applying for the proper permits,
etc. We have our county hearing on March 10th, 7:00 p.m. in Bakersfield.
If you would like to send a letter/email of support or even show up,
please email us
at:p[email protected]<http://us.mc1804.mail.yahoo.com/mc/[email protected]>and
we'll send out more information. Your
> letters have to be received by Feb. 22nd. Please be polite and
> professional in your response. Remember this is not an issue with the
county.
>
> In addition to all of the above, at this time Villalobos will have to
partially suspend many of its services because we have to now focus on
combating this issue. Phone calls and emails will go unanswered for a
period of time or at least until we can deal with all of this.
>
> This battle is being fueled by this woman (letter attached) and again,
not any county entities. We appreciate any and all support. Many lives
depend on it. We will no longer be able to save more dogs or continue
our free spay/neuter program if she succeeds in her vicious war with us.
To even think about all those dogs having to be homeless once again is
just heartbreaking. Of course to think of a human being so heartless is
even worse.

Verdict just came in (I was watching it live online).

Tia's request for the permit was DENIED on the basis that the council did not have enough information to make a decision dealing with one of California's state laws dealing with Environmental Impact Report.

Tia can still do an appeal at a later date once she has the report taken care of and can present it to the council.

The Council was overwhelmingly OK with the idea of her rescue being there. They really liked her, and her idea. I think that she could easily get the spot of she could get some more time and get that report done and presented to the council. I was quite shocked at how little people had to say negative about her. Mostly it was about dogs barking, road issues (all dirt one lane roads), and fires. The People were so adamant about the fires and how "dangerous" they were, yet lived there themselves. It was irritating. It honestly sounded like no one should live up there by the way they made it sound.

Another issue that Tia had was there is NO ELECTRICITY for this area. Everyone lives off of generators. Not quite sure how she expects to run a 100 dog kennel like that...

But yeah, it was DENIED. Now we wait to see what Tia decides.

Yes, I was watching it too and they seemed to be nit picking talking about the decibel levels etc. I was appaled that ppl were sending her emails on how to kill a pit bull in three steps. We'll see what happens....

And the water supply?!! How much must that cost to install and filter, right! seemed like it was a pain just to get that one bin in let alone enough to live off of. To me it seemed part of the appeal WAS it being so isolated so no one would bother them and they would not bother others either.

Re Both posts: That sucks! I totally feel for this woman, it's like one thing after another. She seems to have a heart of gold & it just keeps getting stepped on. I hope the best for her & what she's doing - may God bless them

How good is she realy? i havent seen a whole lot as i was put off by what i first saw , a lady trying to cash in on the reality tv chain with little to no idea about the breed as a whole, stereo typing looks of dogs to certain areas and even labeling peddler lines is not very knowledgable jmho.
Obviously it does get a positive look out the to a certain extent but who are we trying to sell the breed too? example, people whom allready hate the breed are not gonna change their opinions on bsl just because a lady married to an ex con thinks they are ok along with a merry crew of ex cons, they would just be more solified in their ways.

I dont like cesar much either but he does bring a good light to the people who we need to change hense making a more postive outcome overall.
but then i am obviously wrong as alot of the people whom i respect the opinions of here have posted on these threads passionatly.
