This goes for everyone and every type of these breeds, What was it that got you into them, ie were you brought up with them, did you just end up with one and fell in love , did a friend have one, was it allways a dream? ect ect ect, you all know what i mean.
We use to hunt alot when i was a kid, we had allways at least four working hunting dogs and they would all just run around the property they were never off the land ever just well trained dogs. A fella owed my dad some money for a car or something and we ended up with a gamebred bulldog as payment, i remember seeing alot of the dogs there in pens and as a kid lost my calm when we got to the pups. Took my pick and we were on our way.
Ben was a bit of a prick with the other dogs but at the same time when hunting if the other dogs were in trouble he would allways help the pack and smash what ever the quarry was. Saw him jump seven feet in the air and pull a large feral cat out of a tree by its tail once, i was amazed. Ben died when he was only three in a accident after he got out. Dad never understood the breed but he was hit by a car wandering of the block.
Years down the track a few of my friends showed me their "pitbulls" that were all crossbred mutts and were funny temp wise, i wasnt that impressed. A little further i met a fella through my work who owned a few gamebred bulldogs, and eventually i was invited around for a beer or three and a chance to look at his dogs, a yard of ten or so dogs greeted me with alot of little muscly dogs screaming jumping and hitting the end of their chains and the look on my face mustve been pricless, for a bit i thought they were the dogs we see on the news until he told me to go pat them.
I went over and gave hem a pat each and quickly realised they didnt want to kill me they just wanted to say hi.
I was in love straight away. Old mate and i would have a few beers after work and slowly i would spend more and more time helping him clean the yard and work the dogs which he just loved we could get twice as much time spent with them with two people which gave him more tim with his new son.
I wanted one and he told me if i could handle a couple of his with no issues he would sell me one down the track so we set a set up at my house and soon there was another, then a new place with a bigger yard and eventually i had a few there. Then one day he came and just gave me a dog one of my own, it would have to be culled out if i couldnt take him so i set up another spot and grabbed her the next day. Its been over a decade and i dont ever think i will change breeds again as long as i can get them. They just have everything i love in a dog, endless energy but can be a lap dog when they want, never give up attitude and they seem to own the entire world according to them. And they have more scrap in them than any ufc fighter could ever have. I know they are just an animal and the comparison should not be mde but they have the qualities i love in most people whom i am friends with.
So thats me.......what about you?
