I recently read that 95% of puppies are born with worms of some sort passed on from the mother, with round worms being the most common. It happens even with the most reputable breeders. My question is why? Are 95% of the mothers, even show quality, infected?...again, why? Seems strange. Just curious:)

From my understanding the eggs can lay dormant even in a wormed dog and can be passed to the pups. It is more involved than that but that is my understanding of where that comes from. I have never had worms in pups except one time when the bitch I whelped had not been wormed in who knows how long and the pups had round worms. It was nasty!!

Thanks for the reply Lisa and company:) Just found it odd that so many pups have worms (I guess that's why we DE worm them!) even under the best conditions.
