So I guess while I was at work today. Someone tried to steal my dogs.
We know who it is.

he is a friend of a friend of a guy who lives upstairs from us. He took Beia's leash out of my roomies cousin's hand(he's 14) and would not give it back.(this guy is always commenting on them, and always asking to hold one of their leashes,or asking if they are always leashed)

My roomie and the cousin(even though he was scared to death) fought to hold onto the leash and get her back.

While this was going on, the other friend tried to snatch Bruno. I am lucky that some people drove by and stopped, cause they felt something was not right.

Now,the question is,what do I do? I was not there, but I feel scared for my dogs now.

Do I call the cops? Do I contact the apt. manager? This is the same moron who got his butt kicked the other night by these guys upstairs, and was tossed outside butt naked.(I am so glad i missed that)

Anyway please help!(I can't wait to move)

Why do you even need to ask? Common sense says call the law AND the apartment manager. It's a punk no cursingbastard who you can't go slap around. Document all the crap every time anything happens.

A little common sense is all it takes to find an answer to your question.
:goodpost:

Why I love Idaho just the right threat and I can put one down like a rabid dog...

I know to call the land lady but I dunno about cops, cause I was not there,so I don;t know what really happened.
If I was there the cops would have been called a long time ago.
I know very well, it's common sense to call them. But like I said i was not there and don;t know what actually happened.
I don;t want to just call the cops. You don;t just call the cops in this neighborhood, unless you want trouble.

ps: You can;t use those "choice" words on the open forum.

I know how you feel now :/

Did you call the cops and report yet? I will have to have my roomies here when I do,cause I only know part of what happened.

But it was enough to send my blood boiling. If I had been home, the cops would have been called already.

I'm just a little scared, cause I am afraid what they could do,since they will know who called.

I do not trust them.

You have 2, TWO witnesses. Call the cops & the apartment manager. That way it's on file, cover you booty. I couldn't think twice about it for the sake of my dogs. The cops probably can't do anything since your dogs weren't technically stolen but just say you want to file a report, maybe you can at least get a restraining order against this dude since he's harrassed you & attempted to steal your dogs.

^^^ Exactly why you need to call. Don't allow someone to let you live in fear, either way you're screwed. So document it & get a restraining order. Then get a concealed weapons permit, practice on a few FP shooter games & get yo self a sawed off shot gun ;) ( jk about the sawed off shotgun but darn serious about the rest).

I appreciate the fact you are stopping to rehash & think things through. Shows good character

Sucks. Hope u can move soon. Are you able to go down to the station and bring the roommates cousin with you? Or anyone who was there? They maybe able to help with advice and you might feel better away from the house and the guy.

Dude after I called the cop's and the land lady.. I would beat the piss out of the person who tried to steal my dog's and put the fear of god in them that if they ever even thought about coming to steal one of mine again they would regret it. Then I would go and get me a big cane Corso to guard my dog's and let that fool try and come around again LOL.

LOL. I will keep Guido in mind. I will have to wait till Tues to contact the apt. manager cause tomorrow is Memorial day. But I will look up the non emergency number for the apt. patrol tomorrow.

Down here Guido would be unimployed we have our own way of dealing with dog theives, in La. you have the right to protect your propery by whatever means you have to, but i would let the cops know what happened and what will happen next time.

First thing's first, I'm sorry you live in such an area that you have to be afraid of protecting yourself, your home and your dogs.

Second of all, do as everyone suggested and file a complaint, whether you have to call them to come out to your apartment, or you go directly to the station.

I'm sorry, but my dogs are like my kids, and nobody messes with either of those, or my money!! You shouldn't be afraid to protect yourself, your dogs, or your home. Stop worrying about any possible retaliation and do what you need to do. Woman up! If Beia and Bruno were your kids and not dogs, would you still hesitate to call and file a complaint if someone had tried to kidnap them!? Seriously, you need to toughen up and take care of what's yours.

Alert the police and get a restraining order. Really not that hard and not that much money at all. Get written statements from everyone that is on your side that this is whats going on and that this kid has been drilling you.

You said appartment yes?
Let your landlord know about this up coming common problem.

If you dont get stuff in papers now and let this punk know you mean business and people are aware of him and his sticky fingures then one day your dog really is going to go missing

Katie, it is easy for all of us to play "arm chair quarterback" with your situation, and even throw some humor in there for good measure (Lord knows I do) but, in all honesty, it's your call. Alerting whatever authority you have to is the proper way to handle this and is the easy part, it's the ramifications of your actions possibly inflicted by these jerks upon you that I'm sure you're frightened of, and with that I say be careful. I'm sorry you have this problem to begin with and I wish you luck.

One thing I've learned is to stay ahead of these types of people. One way is to begin telling people you have your dog/pup micro-chipped, with tracking device (there are items available). Next, if you know of any would be thieves, get their pics on a cell phone when they are unaware, their names if you can, where they live, what they drive, their plate #'s, ect.

I've had guys in my town, wanna-be ghetto dogmen(thieves, IMO), asking all about my pup, and dogs...the advice above makes them want to stay away, besides what I told them I'd do to a thief, LOL.

But if you can afford it, get your dog micro-chipped and tattooed for identity reasons. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have. JMO.

I agree. One way or another you have to let them know you're not messing around.
This is also a problem here in LA. Lots of baby thugs running around looking to steal a good dog because they lack the resources/knowledge/discipline and integrity to raise one of their own.
I've always been concerned, and recently became somewhat paranoid that someone would kidnap my boy. We walk/run alot. And we come across a few neighborhood guys that always ask questions. Each time more inquisitive. "How old is he... Is he friendly... Does he have any kin... What bloodline... etc". So these neighborhood guys are 3 streets over. But a few weeks ago they just happened to be hanging out on my corner. And then my neighbor told me one of them was looking in my windows the other day.
I went straight over to their normal hang out spot. And let it be known that I'm not to be effed with. I'm putting up video cameras and anyone in the frame gets put on my hit list. Yesterday I put a couple window stickers stating "This property is under video surveillance".
Hopefully it will be by the end of summer.

Yeah, when punks start snooping, they think we can't read their minds.
Another thing is I usually don't let people pet my dogs/pup, if I believe they are no good. My 2 1/2 year old male is rather picky with people, and if I don't trust em, I tell 'em he's a biter. When they get nervous, he knows, and warns them with a stare.
However, if it's a trusted person, and they don't fear dogs, he's friendly.
Also, never tell your dog's bloodline or breeding to non-dog people you don't know or trust.
